You might convince Colorado to give up Girard and part of the benefit is the cap savings, but Byram, that's not going to happen.

I think it’s fair. barby is a full on top 6 forward on a cheap deal. Bowen albeit has the potential to be a top 4 defender but realistically will not get a serious shot in COL. Girard and Toews are ahead of him and are very pivotal assets on this team. and he is going to look to be paid. His value is only gonna diminish from here. and with COL in a win now mode as you would be with all your talent. players like barby help you not bowen

So who is AB going to replace in the Avs top 6? Not Landy. Not Rants. Not Nuke. That leaves Lehky. Probably not since he not only is younger, similar numbers but still better, and helped us win a cup. I'm not seeing that happen. AB is not a C so that rules out MacK and JT. So at this point, AB as a 28 yr old 3rd line winger is not worth a 21 yr old top 4 D, sorry... on your team a top pair. Just because the avs have 5 skaters that are legit top pair D men in this league does not mean they will give one away for something that they dont need. Its called depth and it is why the Avs are still in contention for the division title even with the insane amount of injuries they have had this year.

Barby would be that depth you are talking about. He would play in middle 6 and be on your second powerplay. I think it’s a slam dunk win now mode to continue to be able to roll 4 lines with brutal efficiency.

You obviously do not understand the Avs system. Everything they do is rooted in the backend. They are a transition team. Not a cycle team were the depth of forwards is more important. The Avs 3rd and 4th lines are checking lines. You are suggesting that they abandon how they play. The depth I'm talking about is the ability to have a puck mover like G go down in the second round and have that "extra" guy slot in were it counts in their system. If you actually followed the Avs you would also realize that Byram was arguably the best Defender we had in the cup final, even over our beloved Norris winner.

Colorado would sooner depart with Girard than they would with Byram.

Lol no, just no. Your thinking is all off and shows minimal to no understanding of how the Avs work, or for that matter how hockey works.

Btw, there's also no way Byram signs that deal either even if the trade were to go through.

I can promise you that it's not close to fair. Start by looking at TOI stats and you'll see that Byram is third on the team amongst defensemen. Same with last year in the playoffs. So we're talking about a 21 year old who plays heavy minutes for the Cup champs and did so during their Cup run (at 20 years old).

That alone should be enough to illustrate that his value is a lot higher than that of a middle six forward. But if that's not enough:

Player A: 5v5 PPG = 0.37
Player B: 5v5 PPG = 0.31

A = Byram and B = Seider.

Byram is a franchise defenseman that has had injuries. He'll be the #2 in Colorado for the next decade. Barabanov doesn't even get a conversation started.

That's an interesting assessment but seems an awful lot like begging the question. Go look at minutes played and then tell us Byram is not a top-4 D for the Avs. Toews is likely gone after next season and guess who his replacement is? You're selling Byram far, far short of what he actually is and the Avs aren't trading him unless they get a crazy offer that merely starts along the lines of a young, proven top-4 D, a young, proven 2C and a 1st; who the hell is going to offer that? Nobody so Byram is an Av moving forward.
