Even if you subscribe to the theory that Cal Petersen's contract is a bad contract (despite the ability to buy it out cheaply in 2024), Josh Anderson's is worse -- much worse. Moreover, the Kings have 15 forwards on the roster for next season already, all of whom could make the team out of training camp, plus youngsters from Ontario like Alex Turcotte and Sam Fa-gem-o who might contend for spots on the main roster, so Anderson isn't needed from a playing-value perspective. (He's scoring at the rate of less than half a point per game, which puts him behind no fewer than EIGHT of our wingers who have played at least 42 games.) So Los Angeles wouldn't be adding a first-round draft pick to what should be a one-for-one exchange (which already favors the Canadiens), which we probably wouldn't make unless we had excellent prospects of passing him on to a team which isn't on his 8-team-no-trade list.
