Mode - plafond salarial: Basique

Description

Roster assumes a 83.5mil salary cap, as per the rumors.

Krejci will retire. Bergeron will likely retire if the bs win the cup. The playoff run this year will take its toll on both of these players. The only way Bergeron will stay is if Marchand, Pasta, Montgomery, and Sweeney provide enough incentive for him. I'm going to assume Bergy signs for 1x1.5mil with at least 1mil in playing bonuses; and treats '23-'24 as a farewell tour, bolster his HoF career, and a way to bring in the new guys all while on a comically team-friendly deal.

However, if Bergy doesn't resign, Zacha will take 1C with Marchand and Pasta; Coyle will be the 2C with Hall and Debrusk; and Nosek will anchor the 4C spot. Without Bergeron, look for a 1x2.5mil deal given to a player like Sean Monahan (to rejuvenate his career with a promise to play 2 or 3C); OR a 3x2mil deal to Bjugstad (at 3C).

If Orlov signs a long-term deal (somewhere around 4.5mil), Grzelcyk will be traded for something like 2nd & a conditional 5th/6th OR a B-level F prospect. If Orlov doesn't resign, Grz stays.

With Center depth being an issue, regardless of the aforementioned possibilities, Brett Harrison and Johnny Beecher will get their shot at the 3C spot. Marc McLaughlin will get time in the big club as well.

I absolutely recognize that the turnover on D isn't really feasible, but there's some cap gymnastics needed for this team to not be drafting in the 15-19 spot for the next few years. Mayfield probably gets more $ than what I put down for him, as he's going to be a hot commodity in the offseason – (if Mayfield doesn't sign, Clifton likely gets a similar deal). Luke Schenn could also get a 2yr deal and Zboril might have to stay to shore up the right side and replace Forbort's PK duties. Nonetheless, these potential moves are really the only possibilities because this team has so many NMCs and NTCs.

Lastly, I'm unsure what the Bonus Overages look like with this new roster.

This would be hard for the Bruins to swing, as Sweeney and Co. left a horrible taste in CBJs mouth with the Gavrikov bait and switch.

A pick (perhaps higher than this 7th) would have to go the other way.

Graves will likely walk this offseason if he prioritizes $ over cup chances. I'd guess he wants a 5x4-6mil contract. Even with money coming off the books, Graves probably won't find his payday in NJ. Forbort, signed through '24, can replace Graves at 3mil and make an immediate impact.

NJD is comically deep at D with Hughes, Nemec, and Casey coming into the league over the next few years.
Forbort would provide a solid LD option to play 18-ish minutes alongside Marino, Nemec, or Severson and would provide immediate help on the PK until those guys are ready to be lineup regulars.

NJD also recognizes the cap squeeze and can get Forbort for pennies on the $ – hence the '25 5th (possibly could be a 6th).

The full bonus overages will be carried forward so that’s 4.65m that needs to be accounted for putting you over significantly.

Remove Mayfield + Nosek for starters to help with that.

Doubt CBJ would take Reilly after he refused to sign with them, orgs have long memories about those kind of things.

Harrison is nowhere near NHL ready or more importantly NHL center ready.

Zacha would be C2. Merkulov would likely get a shot at LW3. McLaughlin likely makes roster too.

Theory doesn't hold water. Columbus was fine taking Quick's contract back to get a deal done. It's far more likely Sweeney was keeping the Gavrikov deal as a fallback while he waited to see what else became available closer to the deadline.

The cap situation is nuts and would be a leading reason why Orlov (and Clifton, Bertuzzi , etc.) don't/can't sign back. Mayfield is a long-shot for sure and would look great in black and gold but probably can't happen – I'd put good money on Schenn signing a too-expensive (2yr, 1.5-2mil?) deal with the Bs.

I'd be shocked if Harrison doesn't make a solid case for a spot on the team come training camp. McLaughlin and Beecher will probably take turns at the 3C/4C spot. I'd guess that 2C spot sees a bunch of movement next year, but Zacha at 2C with Hall and Pasta does sound great.

Merkulov will have to beat out Lauko for that LW spot, which is absolutely possible, and I'd prefer that for the long term.

Freddy probably gets 3x1.5/1.8mil, and that contract will undoubtedly go to arbitration. Has he earned more than 1.8mil yet? He's making big strides, getting more playing time, and absolutely becoming more composed, but his role is fairly limited, and thus the payday is too.

Swayman is 24 and will either want a long-term, big-money deal or a bridge deal to break his RFA. 2x2.5/3.5 probably isn't too far off, honestly. Spencer Knight (3x4.5mil) and Oettinger (3x4mil) will be the benchmark for him. The Bruins will make it explicit that he's not shouldering the load like Oettinger has to, and the Bs will point to Knight being overpaid and limiting what the Panthers can put in front of him.

Depends where Frederic is used. If Freddy is C4, Merk has good shot LW3. If Freddy is there than not likely. If Hall is moved (strong possibility). Merk’s chances go up significantly.

Harrison’s D is not good at jr’s, sure as hell going to struggle at pro level with it. May prevent him from being a center in the NHL regardless. May be better suited for sniper wing.

Yup, I like the idea of Harrison on the wing – he's been spending time on Shane Wright's wing in Windsor. As you point out, Harrison's NHL future is likely on the wing. His d-zone play isn't as bad as you think it is, as he has great hockey IQ, even if he overcommits in the d-zone. So, his d-zone skill does need work. He'd definitely benefit from time in Providence developing his pro game, but again, I think he'll make a good impression in camp. From what I've seen and heard, Harrison's game is a lot like Jimmy Hayes' early career in terms of the shoot-first mentality, choppy skating style, and largely assumed straight-line play. Another (loose) comparison is Nolan Patrick – in their o-zone ability to create shots for themselves.

Pairing Harrison with a playmaker and a strong defensive forward is important for the pros. In the next few years as the current core really ages out, I'd bet a line of Harrison - Locmelis/Beecher - Lysell (Sniper - Two-way C - playmaker) emerges.
