Description
When Perfetti comes back, slot him in at LW2 and shift Vrana down to LW3; Barron to LW4.

Perfetti - Drouin - Wheeler would be a nightmare haha nobody would ever shoot. I can see Kerfoot also being a low-cost target to fill that 3rd line center spot. Likewise I like Conor Sheary as another low-cost option for a scoring winger instead of Vrana, though Vrana with his extra year of term feels more on brand for the Jets.

This all hinges on A) Parayko waiving his NTC to come play in the prairies and B) Schmidt not being a hold-up going back the other way. But in this hypothetical, the Blues get a lot more value for taking on Schmidt so I like to think it isn't entirely impossible lol. Jets could potentially retain $1M or $1.5M on Schmidt too. Or they could just include Dillon instead, but I'm hesitant to do that because Dillon is a much more core component of the Jets' d-core than Schmidt is.

So a guy who has 27 career points in 157 career games and a lousy 4th that's 3 drafts away, And we retain 50% on Vrana. Yeah don't think so.

Red Wings are rumored to be either A) buying him out in the off-season or B) trading him now. The guy has played four games all year and is fresh out of rehab. Getting a fringe roster player and a mid-pick at half retained is more than a fair offer IMO. If DET just buys him out, they're taking a cap penalty of $1.4 next year and $1.9 the year after.

I would think the option of just having the retained $2.6M next year is without question preferable for Detroit, no? Especially as Detroit continues to move closer to being a contender by then.

This would be a much different scenario than the scenario I played out above where the Jets just kind of build for contendership right now.

I don't hate it though? I'd have to think about what the implications would be for the rest of the roster -- we'd need to go get a Schmaltz or someone to play 2nd line center asap or enter a re-tool I guess.

I feel like I'm more reluctant than the average Blues fan on trading Parayko. But I can't pretend this doesn't tick a lot of boxes if they're rebuilding -

1. No longer committed to a guy over 30 for 4+ years
2. NHL guy who isn't signed for a horribly long time to eat the old guy's minutes
3. Young, near NHL ready defenseman to hopefully begin using as a building block for a new defense core
4. Draft Capital to continue building out the farm system.

I'd be hard pressed to say no but I'm of the opinion they need to be bad for two years or so anyway and I like Heinola a lot.
