Description

Do we think Vegas expects CS to stay? Would it be good for them to inject some youth into the org? I see a very expensive roster that probably can't afford CS long term.
Newhook hasn't been able to crack the Avs veteran top six. At times he's been awesome, but not consistently enough. Perhaps Vegas shows him some love and he finds new confidence. Newie's style definitely vibes with Las Vegas. VGK can sign Newhook to a multi-year deal at-or-below CS current AAV. I see Newhook as basically an immediate CS replacement. Ignoring the rival factor, does this make sense for both teams?

The basic idea is to NOT spend the 2023 1st at the deadline, but instead do it at the draft to secure a long term 2C. Avs overpay for a Western rival that helps now and later. They extend Chandler for like $6M to be 2C long term. I realize this is unlikely for rivals, but could be the type of deal on the Avs radar, like the Kadri trade.

No. No pipeline, no draft picks, no young cost controlled guys. It boggles my mind that people would think some how after 133 games, not even 2 full seasons and at just 22 somehow Newhook needs to be moved. Yeah color me biased but I’ll take Newhook slotted into that 2C role with those wingers and bet he produces at a 50pt pace instead of CS, keep OO, and the 23 1st AND not help VGK.

Its possible if they have another failed season. I don't view Newhook as a prospect. Yes, there's still lots of potential, but he also contributes right now. I would consider this an adjustment for VGK, not a sale.

Tyson Jost was in his sixth season with the Avs when they moved him and also in Newhook's second (really his first because the season before he was in the ahl and only played 6 games for the Avs) Newhook put up more points then Jost has ever. To say they are in any way the same is simply disingenuous

With all of their skilled expensive players Colorado needs to keep their cost controlled assets to hold this team together, not add another one who they won't be able to afford to sign one year after acquiring.

If it rises 3M they can afford to resign Toews in my books. He should be the priority. Just keep Newhook and pay him roughly what Stephenson makes in 23-24, be patient with him and keep one of your top cost controlled prospects along with your 2023 first in a loaded draft.

I just think that Toews is so good and such a great complement to Makar that Colorado should resign him. The mega deal for Byram can wait. Bridge him like Boston did McAvoy. If Byram proves his durability and with Manson's deal expiring the Av's can give him his mega deal because he certainly has the raw talent.
