Yeah once again, Detroit passes.

Trash offer doesn't get Jonathan Huberdeau, Nor does he waive for Toronto.

Garbage 3rd round picks and Kerfoot are a royal joke for Tyler Bertuzzi.

Laughton gets a '23 1st and a 2nd yet Hooby Dooby Do gets a '24 1st and a retained Bert gets a cap dump and (2) 3rds.... something is wrong here.

Huberdeau is having a bad season and he will be on a bad contract so he doesn't have much value at the moment. Trading for him is a gamble. And Bertuzzi is UFA who often gets injured so his price shouldn't be a lot, either. Laughton has three years left on a good contract and for his position he puts up good numbers. So of the three he has the most value for a cap team.

Engvall is not a cap dump. And a 1st for Huberdeau right now should be viewed as a good deal by Calgary. Leafs are basically saving the Flames from a bad contract and allowing Huberdeau to regain his value by playing with stars on a top 5 team.

Bertuzzi is doing the right things. He hasnt had a chance to get a rhythm. His play has improved dramatically in the last 4 or 5 games...his board play is top notch, and he continues to create space for his linemates. The points are starting to come.

Detroit keeps Bertuzzi for a chance at the playoffs if the return is as laughable as this cap dump and unspectacular couple picks.

I'm not defending any of this but I'll just point out that similar things were said regarding Coleman, Goodrow and Hagel.

Even with hos Huberdeau has played this year, that's not enough of a return for Calgary. Also the Leafs would have 0 leverage in the off-season trading him so they'd get nothing in return. Every team would know they can't afford his $10M next year and that they would be helping Toronto. Toronto would have to add to get rid of him even if he plays well.

That's not true. If he plays well then the Leafs can keep him and trade Nylander who after next year will demand a raise.

Okay, but he's not as good as Coleman, or as young as Hagel.

Your logic on the Leafs flipping is just absolutely "untrue". No one wants Huberneau at 10.8m X 8, not even the Flames. He can't be given away.

So PJ can't really play of for the Oilers but suddenly he is good for the Leafs? Awful trades for the Leafs.. Way too much love for medicoriy and paying a big price for the.

It's a gamble. Very risky trade. It could go south really quickly. But, at a certain point, Dubas needs to take some risks. Otherwise this team won't win anything. As for PJ, it wouldn't hurt to give him an opportunity and see if he can be better in a new environment.

Risks? Leafs are a good team, but one reason they aren't over the hump is they just don't have quality NHLer on their ELC contract. Holmberg is the only drafted Leaf on ELC. Leafs have thrown away so much potential ELC by making these insane TDL trades that have accomplished nothing (like most teams who makes TDL trades). Sorry these trades put the Leafs in cap jeopardy for years, and then have even fewer prospects.

What you're saying is right. But, in a lot of ways that boat has already sailed. Knies is the only hope of an ELC player making a contribution to this line up in the short team. Blame Dubas for that. Leafs could've has Seth Jarvis and Schneider the defenceman from New York. Not to mention the first that was traded for Foligno.

So Dubas has already gone down the "all in" road and there is no turning back. He did so when signed JT and traded for Muzzin. He wasn't patient with the rebuild. Now, it's foolish to hold onto 1sts and hope they become something. Leafs need NHLers on good deals like Laughton.

Don't blame Dubas for the Marleau and the consequential debacle. It was Lou would signed Marleau and the Leafs had that plus 35 contract. To me the biggest failing Dubas (and the Leafs management) has been in salary negotiations with their own RFAs. At the time of the signings the Leafs paid a hometown premium in many cases.

On CapFriendly close to TDL, virtually all Leafs trade have no regard for the future cap and or futures. Somehow the good Meier who is 7m player should be obtained at any cost and then given a an outrageous contract. Should've been done earlier, but I hope someone in at MLS, doesn't allow the Leafs make a trade...unless it's done by committee. Dubas could be dangerously (bad) this TDL as you suggest he fighting for his job.

Yea, Dubas is not the best at trades. Both Rob Blake and Sakic fleeced him. So far, his biggest win has been trading Douglas for Timmins which was a nothing trade. I mean, everyone could have told him trading for Murray was a bad idea because he's not reliable physically. And here we are.

Kinda funny that you say the Leafs were fleeced by Blake. I suppose you mean the Muzzin trade. But don't so many want to follow the same path? Trade so many futures for "now". The Kadri trade. Strange that it seemed OK at the time by the Leafs who though they needed a RHD...any RHD. IMO Barrie was the worse Leafs Dman in his only season as a Leafs.
I was estastic that Leafs got good goalies Samsonov at 1.8m, then the Leafs blew it by wasting 4.7m on Murray.
