I'm just saying that they have to shell out a lot of money over the next few years to Zegras, Drysdale, Mctavish, Bedard/2023 draft pick... So maybe they would rather save the 8-9M it will cost to sign Terry, and make sure they can afford to lock up their other core pieces... Because it will cost close to, or more than 10M per player.
I've run several ACGMs with Terry and Zegras resigning. You're failing to account for the ~11 million coming off the books next year with Henrique and Silfverberg, Then Vatrano's deal comes off the year after that, then a year later Fowlers deal expires, and the year after that, Gibson's contract expires, and a year after that, Strome's deal is done. With the exception of Vatrano's deal not being that big, Anaheim has a big deal falling off every year. Maybe some of those guys are kept around, but they won't be getting raises from their current rates, probably discounts as they will be in their mid 30s (most of them) when their deals expire.
In the mean time the cap will jump, the 2 mil in dead cap from Perry buyout ends this year, as well as the dead cap from John Moore. There are no cap troubles in Anaheim so long as Verbeek doesn't start handing out massive deals.
Besides, the contract comparable for Zegras have been set. 7-7.5 million per. Terry was rumored to have been asking for 7 million range, even say its 7.5 for him.
