Next Years team after a trade for Dumba

Description
This is tight to the cap and doesn't give the team much flexibility. However, a solid RD may very well cost 4+ mil and Cat is within his rights to ask for a $9 mil cap hit. I think this works out if the cap shoots up in 2024-2025 as it's supposed to, with most of that money going to Sanderson. If I'm reading their page right I think the Sens get like 4.6 mil in dead cap space back in 2024-2025 so that should help too.

Not a huge fan of the third pair in this situation and I have a hard time picturing Pierre and DJ letting Brannstrom and JBD take on that role on their own but honestly if they did I think it'd be better than keeping someone like Holden around.

No clue what to do about the goaltending. Hope Sogaard is good lol.

For Matt Dumba at the 2023 trade deadline.
With Norris out for the year Ottawa has the cap space to take the full contract on this season. They then re-sign Dumba for what are hopefully a productive 3 years at a more fair cap hit for his current talents.

I just don’t know if Dumba is enough of an upgrade for the top 4.

Totally fair, but I do think he's someone we can get without giving up any core players or key prospects. I've heard he's not what he used to be but I don't know how far he's fallen. Plus I genuinely think there is value in having experienced guys on the roster and Dumba is a quality vet who's been playing solid minutes for a while.

To be fair - Michael Russo reports that dumba basically doesn’t have any value to other teams right now. He’d be a 6th or 7th d on a winning team so maybe a 4th for someone like Ottawa and would likey sign cheaper on a deal. Like 4x3.5m. I would expect a 2nd and middling prospect to get him. He’s certainly not the dynamo or anything anymore. Guerin has been trying to pump his tires up for like 2 years and. Nobody is biting it seems.

I don’t think the Sens should be after any risky guys in the top 4 or 3rd pair guys that they hope can play top 4. It’s time to make a big move and get that guy.

Thanks for the info! If that's the case then yeah csick is right and this isn't the best move.

What would you give up to get a guy like that? I'd really hate to let go of Grieg or Pinto.

Not giving up either of those 2. But you can’t tell me a 1st round pick + Lassi Thomson + Jarventie/Ostapchuk can’t get back a good RD especially after seeing what Marino went for last summer

Dude, 6th or 7th on a winning team?

      Bull****....

It's says right there, role: top pair. And his defensive metrics rank in the 96th percentile.

Market Value: $4.7M, which is still easily in the 2nd pairing category.

That makes him a top 4 defenseman still. 🤦‍♂️

My question is why are the wild desperate to move him while contending and why does no one want him if he’s good

That’s just what Russo said he’s gotten for feedback from other actual gm’s watching dumba. That he’s on the bottom of their list of d to pursue for tdl additions and that Guerin hasn’t found any value in calls about him. So take it out on Russo. Not that I’m a fan of him, but he has a pretty reasonable hand on the pulse for this stuff.

Also his defensive metrics will be heavily swayed by playing paired with brodin who makes up for Dumba’s lapses.

Long story short. It’s not that dumba doesn’t have value just that since his torn pec he doesn’t have his offensive nature and his game relied on that more than defensive work. So when he was scoring 15ish goals and 50 points you ignore the bad turnover or 2 a game. But when he’s not putting up points those untimely turnovers get you benched for a game or two. Which is what happened to him earlier. Couple bad games in a row and benched.

      Pinto signs for more.

If you want Dumba, just give Minnesota a mid-round pick for his signing rights before he hits free agency.

I agree and would also note that the Wild are the team that drafted him and he has played his whole career with the Wild so far, all while being on the trade block for years and surviving two expansion drafts, I am sure this year he has come to the realization that it is going to be his last year with the Wild and will be moved at the TDL or walk as a FA. These guys are professional athletes but are still human and that has really affected his play this year. I could see him being traded or walking this offseason and preforming way better then he has been as of late or even the past year just because his head will be clear and not worrying about where he might end up at any moment of the day like he is probably thinking everyday right now.

His play has declined a lot over the last few years, he's not worth anything remotely close to that, particularly as a UFA

This is like a 1st and two 2nds

      DeBrincat

The 10th OA pick in 2021 or the 7th OA pick in 2022 should have been used for that, but Dorion.
