The Leafs will never get rid of Knies, unless it's for a superstar player.

Kinda doubt TOR has any interest whatsoever in Greenway. But if TOR needs to shed cap, I’d be totally down with snagging (with a pick attached) Holl or Kerfoot to mix things up.

Idk if the Leafs give up Knies maybe Topi or someone like Voit instead with a 2023 3rd attached mainly I’m not sure either players crack the Leafs Top 6 with the production they’ve had

The OP deal doesn’t make sense for anybody IMO. Wild have a ton of cap space and could use the shake up of adding a guy like Kerfoot and Holl would be a good in case Dumba moves. I’d be ecstatic if they could get those guys with a 3rd attached.

Essentially a pretty large cap dump.

That’s a scary 3rd line tho & would match physicality with anyone, If you can keep Knies from the Leafs POV & replace him with Topi it’d be pretty damn good

I think this trade would be pointless for the wild without Knies/NHL-ready player for next season. They won't be able to retain both Kerfoot and Engvall for next season, so they end up with a net loss of 2 roster players, won't have too much money to be able to keep anyone.

Don't think the Leafs would be interested in taking on both Greenway's 3m and Foligno's 3.1m for next year, having both would probably result in losing Bunting, and I don't think that's a swap they would want to make. Hartman's cap is relatively small, so they probably would like that.

Question for mnbassman and others (Cabbie91?) : Why does this team have a bunch of 3 line centers as their centers? Where is their #1 Center?? I am just honestly curious as to why they don't have or don't go get one? Thanks very kindly.

Not this year. They’ll have like $15 mil in deadline space.

Because they’re expensive and really only come from the draft. And they haven’t drafted any.

And how does the cap work next year, replacing zero dollars with 7.8 million?

For whatever reason, in their entire history, the Wild have put very little emphasis on drafting centers…especially in the last 10-15 years. Every single year everyone talks about the Wild being weak down the middle, yet they continue drafting wings and defensemen…

5.75 replaced with 7.8 = 2 mil added on in reality, Which is easy to work around tbh

They still have 12 mil in dead cap this year & i suppose that means for a pick they can retain on one of those guys?

I mean we can take on Kerfoot and Holl at the deadline and still have about $10 mil in space at this deadline. They cannot, however, take on dollars for next year. That’s why those guys can easily slide in right now.

This has nothing to do with the proposed trade.

Greenway is also trash so that kind of puts a real issue on the trade all 3 guys are having abysmal seasons

Knies is so overrated. We essentially would be dumping three middle six players for nothing but a middle six projected prospect and two free agents that will walk. From my point of view:
Greenway = 2nd/3rd
Foligno = 2nd
Hartman = 1st

Eriksson Ek is a borderline 1C.

Guerin has had three drafts as GM and picked Rossi, Khusnutdinov, and Haight in the first two rounds for centers. In the previous nine drafts prior to Guerin, we had selected three total centers in the first two rounds.

That says a lot about Fletcher and his draft/scouting team.

Not to mention the Wild have never really bottomed out enough to get a high draft pick to get that stud #1C. They have only had two (#3 Gabby and #4 Pouliot bust) top 5 picks since coming into the league. True #1C don't fall off trees and are usually in the top 5 picks unless you find that diamond in the rough in which most cases every team in the league has already had a chance to draft him.

Stop what? He's on pace for 30 goals and 70 points playing Selke level defense. He's 62nd among forwards in scoring. 33rd for centers. If that's not borderline 1C performance I don't know what is.
