This narrative is so ****ing lazy. They said 2017 was going to be a really weak draft and would you look at that, it gave us Makar and Heiskanen, 2 of the best young defenders in the game.

Your argument is... because there was a good year in 2017 and they said it was not going to be great there is going to be a good year in 2022? That is 2 guys, what about guys like Patrick, Glass, Casey Mittelstadt, Michael Rasmussen, Owen Tippett, Gabriel Vilardi, Chances are that he turns out to be like one of these guys, a depth contributer. If someone offered us Connor bedard, sure, but not Nemec 2 late 1sts and Mercer, that does not cut it

What makes you think Nemec will bust? He is 18 years old, youngest dman in AHL, playing solid minutes

There are already some whispers out there that Petey might indeed want out. Russo and Dimitry have already talked about it openly.

Minnesota Wild reporter. This is speculation about speculation. It is like if a Vancouver reporter suggested that Jack and Luke might want to join Quinn in Vancouver

Two 1sts, a Stellar 2nd OA, and Mercer (by no means a slouch) being offered for an RFA at the end of next season (he'll be 26 by then). Not saying it's an auto yes but some canucks fans in here acting like they're getting spit on

I didnt say he was a bust, I said that he is still a gamble and he would have to be A PIECE of a trade and would not have to be the main one. Given that the other pieces were 2 late 1sts and Mercer he is the main piece and is not enough

Two LATE 1sts, a prospect who it is too early to predict what he will be and Mercer who looks like he could be a 2RW or 3C is not nearly enough for a guy who is as dominant as Petey

We've had this conversation before. Russo is the type of reporter you listen to because he's not going to say stuff he isnt' sure about. If he says he has some knowledge about Petey's state of mind, he does.

And Dmitry is in Vancouver, is he not? I know he has Canucks reporters on PDOcast all the time

Ithis package is more than zbuffalo got for Eichel. Not sure what else would be expected when precedent for dominant players is already set

This is assuming the reports of Petey wanting out are correct, and those are reputable sources saying he’s unhappy
There would be about 8 months in age difference if Pete was traded at the deadline
No team other than Buffalo was worried about that injury

There are no reports of Petey wanting out. Those "reports" are OPINIONS and SPECULATION. A report would be if Pettersson's agent said that Petey didn't want to stay in Vancouver which is the exact opposite of what his agent said

The Devils fanbase did this too. Seravelli reported Bratt's name was out there and Devils fans hardcore revolted, saying he was farming clicks and speculating.

Lo and behold, Bratt's name was indeed out there due to the contract dispute.

When reputable reporters say something, it's smart to not dismiss it outright. I'd say Russo and Dmitry fit that bill.

Sure, just like Bratt keeps saying he wants to be a Devil for a long time and his agent said le loves it here and wants to play.

Didn't change the fact that insiders did, indeed, hear his name. Just like legit reporters are hearing Petey may want out. Not saying there's a trade request, but if you want to ignore good reporting from reputable reporters because it hurts your feelings, that's on you.

When was the last time a player's agent said "yeah he wants out"? Legit question. Can you provide me an example?

Also, the quote in question:

“Elias loves Vancouver, he hates losing. July 1st we can discuss and explore a contract with Vancouver and we will.”

This directly implies that he doesn't want to be on a losing team. "we can explore and discuss" is just boilerplate agent talk. If anything this would make me pessimistic about a Peterson extension, not optimistic.

“The plan was at the time to explore what we could do with the cap space,”
uh oh! didn't go well, did it?

That is more pressuring the team to spend, I think that if he wanted out it would be known, Mikey Dipietro wanted out and the whole league knew it, this is different, we cant treat this in the same way, if his agent said he loved it here, he loves it here, he can hate losing all he wants and that is a valid concern, but I would be absolutely shocked if he came out and said he wanted out.

Darrin farris also came out and said that Dipietro should be traded and he wants to move

We really using Mike Dipietro, who has played 2 career NHL games, as the 1-for-1 comparison?

I was thinking other high-end RFAs, or even UFAs. Pretty sure JG and Tkachuk's agent both initially said they were willing to talk contracts and that their players loved the city. Same with Fiala and Minnesota.

My argument is that if the 4th stringer asks out and everyone knows, dont you think that the same would go for the star centre?
Currently they cant talk with other parties as Petey is under contract and he isnt going anywhere

I have no idea if that would go for the star center. Can you provide an NHL example of a star RFA or his agent saying he was unwilling to extend with his current team? Depth players asking out because they need a change of scenery is quite common and absolutely not what we're talking about with Peterson.

No he's not. He was apparently willing to extend there if JG did. JG left, Matt told them he wouldn't extend long term.

He literally said he loved Calgary and was willing to extend longterm there https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/tkachuk-loves-calgary-open-to-long-term-deal-with-flames/

"Tkachuk was speaking Saturday at the Flames' end-of-season availability when he was asked about the prospect of signing a long-term deal with the club.
"Absolutely," said Tkachuk, 24, who is due to be a restricted free-agent this summer. "I've loved it here. I've grown up here." - May 28, 2022. He changed his mind just 2 months later."

YES HE IS. He literally told the team he was not going to sign a long term contract..... If you are going to use Gaudreau as the reason he left, then there is even less of a reason for Pettersson to leave because the Canucks signed Kuzmenko who has been excellent with him

Yours is outdated. Maybe if Pettersson openly says he won't sign in Vancouver in the summer, then we can discuss trade rumors
