Its a good offer, but really need that 2023 first as its a way stronger draft

Very true, but the Sabres 1st could be a little later than expected this year. Savoie was a top 10 pick last year so he probably better than what you would get this year at that spot.

Seems like Jersey are the front runners for Meier
We certainly have the pieces to beat their offer- if we want
Tough to say if we actually will or not

We have (supposedly) at least called the Sharks to see what they’re asking for

I think he’d be a good add
Idk if I’m interested in trying to outbid Jersey though
If the cost is reasonable, then cool

“Reasonable” (for me) means some thing like:
-a protected ‘24 1st
-a good prospect
-our ‘23 2nd (not Philly’s that we have)

I wouldn’t even do Savoie
If him, a 2nd this year, & a 1st next year isn’t enough,
then I’d want us to drop out- & good luck with the late 1st you’d get from Jersey this year

It might be enough value wise, but I suspect they will want the 2023 first more.

To be fair, I’m not suggesting that the Sharks would have to take wherever we offer- i just think we’ll have our limits, and that some pieces SJ might want we won’t part with

I think the ‘23 1st is a piece we’d (at least) be very reluctant to trade away

And that very well could mean that Jersey (or another team) ends up getting him
Even though we have the pieces to put bid anyone, i don’t think it’s likely we get into a bidding war
But i do think we are interested & will make a reasonably good offer- will it be good enough? We’ll see

On the other hand…
You’ve also gotta keep in mind that just bc SJ may want a particular piece, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll get it

Sabres have one of the better prospect pools in the league...so moving their 2023 1st would be not so hard. Timo is the best player available right now in terms of high impact and is the sharks absolute best player outside of Karlsson. Timo leads the league in scoring chances, 3rd in the league in high danger chances all on a team that struggles to produce offense. He plays defense, is a puck possession monster and isnt afraid to play physically. The sharks are going to get a nice package for him, plain and simple.

If Buffalo needs a high-end elite power forward that can score consistently then they will pay for him. If not, NJ, NYR will be happy to top this package.

And that would be fine by me
We aren’t in a rush, & i don’t think we’ll overpay

Sabres shouldn't move Peterka. However SJ could use a guy like Ostlund. Ostlund, '23 1st and Asplund would be an acceptable package.

I think we might be willing to move Ostlund
And while i particularly wouldn’t mind giving up our ‘23 1st,
our GM has inferred that he doesn’t want to
So maybe our ‘24 1st instead, or maybe he’d change his mind??
Tough to say

We’ll just have to wait n see what happens
But my guess would be that we don’t decide to give up what it’ll take to get him

I’d be fine with your proposed deal though
That seems fair to me for both sides
