Description
I'm predicting the cap goes up by 2M, not 1M as recently feared. Five TDL trades, three in the offseason, one that honestly could be either. Taxi squad is the next man up crew. Going back to rolling four lines strong AND to giving our top defensemen proper, suitable partners that put them in a position to excel, while necessarily moving a couple of players and also maximizing draft positions for this summer. I tried to keep things in a negotiable range, but obviously aim to address Blues needs efficiently. I might also try a version where they go get a less splurgy scorer to replace Vova.

And last but not least... behold the wonder.

Yes, I'm aware of the general Wings fan consensus around here. I'm just not sure I buy it concerning next season. But any way you slice it, this is obviously an "think ideal" AGM in a world that rarely spins in an ideal manner.

Wallinder sure looks like he's going to kick a door in next season and TAKE a roster spot, not to mention Edvinsson being ready and we still have Chairot under contract and then, oh yea, Walman is like "hey, I'm a legit top 4 guy" so we just don't have the space and taking on a contract like Krug, just doesn't make sense with extensions coming up. If Detroit adds any players, without roster players going out for next season, it will be via FA or internally.

Yeah, that's probably all sage commentary... and yet I'm still wondering where the PP1 quarterback is going to come from. Like I said, I don't expect everything to fly in this AGM. Just tried to pick things and places that make some sort of sense even if they likely won;t happen.

Seider is getting good at it and Edvinsson has potential in that role too, hell, Walman is turning heads on the PP right now. If St. Louis NEEDS to move Krug, I could see a team like the Islanders being a good fit. They could use a puck moving LHD and actually have some cap with Varlamov's contract coming off the books next season. St. Louis would probably need to take one contract back to facilitate it, but it would be a good fit.

If Yzerman wanted to sign Krug he could've easily have signed him, Krug stated numerous times that he wanted to come home and play in Detroit. But Yzerman didn't want to sign him because he's too small at 5'9" if you look at Tampa Yzerman built a big blueline and he's doing the same in Detroit. There's no way Yzerman is giving up a 2nd for Krug he's been pretty much injured in his time with the Blues. Hard pass.

Are you sure? This is the same perpetually desperate franchise that recently paid a 1st and a 4th for 14 games of the rotting corpse of Nick Foligno. So yeah... I could totally see it. tears of joy

I personally don't think you were asking for enough... ROR with max retained alone is worth that return. Leafs fans just always overvalue their own pieces. Now, if they said they didn't want to give up picks for rentals AGAIN, THAT I could understand, but saying they won't trade for a 3C doesn't fit their m.o. at all...

Are you sure? This is the same perpetually desperate franchise that recently paid a 1st and a 4th for 14 games of the rotting corpse of Nick Foligno. So yeah... I could totally see it. tears of joy

And they have learned from that mistake, it was 3 years ago.

Two years, but perhaps they have. On the other hand, the desperation has only grown since then. We shall see.

shout out to Rosen. With Krug, Scandella Perunovich out he has stepped up and been great. (arguably better than Leddy). I agree he should be their 6th/7th defenseman for this season and next.

Definitely better than Leddy. It's not even close.

It'd be tough to let go of someone like Holmberg go. He's been awesome in his bottom-6 role!
But getting ROR and Barbashev really checks the boxes for the Leafs needs. Upgraded 3rd line and filling out the 2nd line LW spot.

I like Barbashev's potential. Can't say the same for other Leafs fans. I think he could be for the Leafs similar to what Lehkonen was for COL.

Leafs have a lot of pressure on them to perform in the playoffs, so I'd imagine they accept.

To be honest, I thought you'd ask for more for those 2 players. But for me, I'll take it, especially if they can find a way to re-sign Barbashev in the offseason.

Also might need to send a roster player over to STL to even out salary.
