Description
In my opinion I would not trade Hughes unless you get a behemoth offer. He’s a franchise defenseman with unreal transitional skating and elite playmaking ability. Just watch his vision on the past few stretch passes to Miller.

Brandt Clarke would be nice and he looks like a stud but his ceiling can’t go higher than Hughes. This is just for value.

Come on now. Brandt Clarke is not that impressive. Hughes is literally a 99th percentile in transition and skating. Clarke plus two 1sts and I still prob wouldn't do it.

Hughes is already an elite d-man
Clarke's ceiling is basically Hughes rn
but I don't think the Kings have the cap anyways

Who would he play with? Doughty? who his whole career as played along side a shut down Dman for a reason. Durzi? Who is a defensive liability. Roy? he might be the best fit with Hughes but he wont be in LA much longer so then who? Spence?

Doughty seems like the perfect fit given his defensive metrics and declining offensive production. Hughes could revitalize his career. Roy would also be a good fit.

If that's your analysis who is Clarke going to play with? He needs more help defensively than Hughes from what I've seen of him at WJC.

Clearly only the Canucks. I can foresee a scenario in which Vancouver HAS to trade Hughes, but that's the only circumstance in which they would do so. Clarke is unlikely to exceed Hughes' level (I can't see him being the next Fox or Makar), as much as I love and hope for him. Meanwhile, we know what an All-Star Hughes is. All the risk is Vancouver's.

Well I think in the case of a rebuild this would make sense to buy two or three years and not waste Hughes' prime years. But since the Canucks want to retool again I'd keep him 100%.
