Maybe they win a round after this trade, maybe not. Either way, how will they win a round next year or after that?

They can easily end up with 2 more years of first or second round exists, a persistent hole in the top 6, a hole on defense in the top 4, a hole at C if Matthews walks and another hole in the top 6 if Nylander walks.

Leafs giving up a future top 4 Dman, an A level prospect whose probs gonna play for them once his NCAA season finishes, and a 1st for 2-3 months of Horvat. Like listen to the reports Knies is untouchable. Dubas turned down a trade involving him for Hagel and MAF. And based on what were seeing it was the right move as Knies is looking to be a solid power forward for us.

In general Leafs have 4 good C's rn and have no need for another one. What they will be eying is bottom 6 depth pieces that can make an impact.
