Man, if we are selling at deadline...its gonna be a brutal next few months for us.

Probably got to be around 60 pts (or below) at 62-game mark to be sellers. That would mean, we would have to lose 2/3 of our games between now and March 3rd.

10/13-11/22/22: 16 wins, 3 losses, 0 OTL
11/22/22-3/3/23: 14 wins, 29 losses, 0 OTL (or worse)

That would be...depressing.

(then again, our record last year...from game 20 until trade deadline...14 wins, 29 losses....doh!)

Value wise that's a very good deal for NJ, but I'm not sure the Devils make the move.

Only because if the Devils continue to play well, they might not want to sacrifice the defensive depth. Their goal is to make the playoffs and because they've acquired so many 1st round picks the past few years, they might value Severson over a pick at this stage.

But if they made this move, I wouldn't be upset.

Highly doubt NJ moves Severson. They have a good team and are going to look to make some noise in the playoffs. Severson will likely be treated as an own rental.

Yes and no. I don't think we'd get measurably worse in the short term, especially if Hughes or Nemec is ready, and I think this helps us in the long term. So it's not really the same idea of getting what you can for expiring assets. It's using an expiring asset to improve in the future with no real impact on the "now", imo. Plus, Puljujarvi is a favorite of mine.
