I think dumoulin-mayfield would be a nightmare defensively. Aho surprisingly has been competent defensively this season, he has been carrying Mayfield

I can understand why people may think the Pens will be sellers and I obviously can't say for sure, but I'd bet on the pens finding their way back up the standings. Personally, I'd be happy to move Dumo, but I don't think it will happen unless one of two things happen:

1) The Pens are clearly out of the race by the deadline.
2) The Pens identified another LHD target to replace Dumo.

If Boeser can stay healthy and consistent, I don't see why Van wouldn't be interested in this move. Bailey adds a defensive presence that Garland does not and the two years left on his deal line up Pettersson's extension. That said, JGP solves the 3C conundrum in Van. Not sure if there is any inkling to trade him vs Bailey.

I’d rather not retain

Dumo should've been moved long before the season started. I dont even know why we traded Marino if were not gonna play Smith. Pettersson has been great and deserves top pair. POJ has been probably our 2nd best guy defensively behind Pettersson so keepung him 2nd pair would be good too. Dumo is currently playing 3rd pair and hasn't looked great. I personally think we should move him to either get space or the package him and Kapanen to get a forward and pick (like I did with Hornqvist and I will admit the others were pretty far off). Smith has been good in the AHL so playing him 3rd pair shouldn't be an issue. Plus we still got Ruhwedel and Friedman for backup.

While I'm find with moving Dumoulin it's not a good idea to move him NOW. POJ has been getting better and better, but remember he's playing in a sheltered role and it's probably too soon to bump him up to the 2nd, especially with the Pens struggling. Smith is still a bit of a gamble right now and I don't know he's ready for full time NHL duty. Smith doing pretty good in the AHL, but he's not exactly killing it and IMO, he should be really killing it right now.

POJ has been playing 2nd line for a few games now. Hes been very solid. It's also harder to score in the AHL for some reason. I mean Smith led all rookie defenseman in points his rookie year. Hed be a better fit with Rutta and we need to at least try to bring him up. If hes waiver exempt I'm not sure why we haven't called him up yet. POJ was out a couple games and that shouldve been a time where we call him up and let him play a few. In preseason he also looked very solid with Petry (they played together a couple games). POJ and Rutta was also a good pair before POJ got promoted. Either way I think it's better to move Dumo now then later. Hes gonna have more value now than let's say the deadline.
