Description
Thoughts on trade values?
I think the horvat trade is fair, 23 first plus a B level prospect for a rental.
Really think the bruins are a good trade partner, if they are scratching both Reilly and Smith their values are low.
Only unsure about barbashevs value, could be one of those players that randomly gets a first round pick.

Not enough in every case.

You're close in value for the players possibly, but not the retention. And theres not enough "meat" for any of those teams to accept, rather than get other (and better) offers.

The BOS deal: sure BOS would love to move Reilly, but eat 1mil and ADD Smith to the deal, for just taking back an equally overpaid/underachieving Engvall?

“Really think the bruins are a good trade partner,” is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever read.

Both capped out
Both contenders
Both in the same division
Recent rivalry
Recent playoff meetings

They quite literally could not be worse trade partners. Weird, and kinda baffling take. Those two GMs wouldn’t even contact each other.

Dude, Muzzin is all but confirmed done for the season leafs have 5 mil ltir space to work with. Contenders make trades with each other all the time, look at Minnesota and Colorado last year. Leafs already could’ve had Reilly for free if they weren’t maxed on contract spots.

You don’t see Reilly as a negative asset for Bruins at this point tho? That was the logic behind the deal since Reilly counts as 2mil against theyre cap in the minors retaining the mil wouldn’t hurt them at all. Also what do you think Horvat gets for a return? Lehkonen got a 2nd plus A prospect ontop of 50% retention.

Minnesota and Colorado are not boston and toronto. Tyson jost and nico sturm were just two guys that sucked swapped for each other, not a two for one swap all with players at drastically different stages of their career (side note: there is a 0% chance of the bruins retaining on reilly. It’s just flat out illogical to an extreme).

When was the last time the bruins and leafs made a trade? 2010 when the bruins were cup bound and the leafs were horrible?

No, these trades dont happen. There’s probably 3-5 other teams on the same level as the bruins in terms of least likely trade partners. Categorize it under a snowballs chance in hell. No shot.

Reilly has played 10 games in BOS and at 3mil they'd love to move him, VERY similar to Engvall, really EQUAL to engvall, but you want them to retain and add Smith?

Lehkonen was a talented guy, but debateable that he had a bigger upside offensively, he was largely a 3rd liner with meh stats and an eatable cap hit. Horvat at a 2.75mil cap hit retention is twice as much and hes the more established player. Kerfoot has negative value to VAN as an expiring UFA, and really it comes down to what you think of Hirvonen. Hirvonen alone gets you the cap retention and entices VAN to take Kerfoot, (IMO the retention is worth a 2nd, so Hirvonen = a 2nd and the negative adding of Kerfoot), but the late in the round 1st probably isn;t enough for Horvat.

Leafs are the buyers and don't have the leverage, especially without cap space and tradeable, young-ish roster players to entice non-contenders. You can call these GMS and make those offers, but theyre easily beaten. Dubas doesn;t have magic dust to fool these other GMS into accepting below market offers.

Honestly If Barbashev plays anywhere close to last year and he is heating up, I think he will get a similar trade to the Copp deal last year

Yeah not enough for Barbashev... but I think Bruins take that deal. No role for Smith on the team and Reilly is probably our 8D when Forbort returns from injury. Bruins get rid of two contracts albeit retaining Reilly's 1M for another year for Engvall who at least has some upside. Engvall could play a similar top 9 role to Pavel Zacha in Boston.

They like the player, but are just deep. MUCH rather have him still in the organization at the same cap hit as if they retained and moved him.

In other words, no. The bruins aren’t just going to help out the leafs

I meant Smith does not have a role on the Bruins. Makes sense for both teams to swap Reilly/Smith for Engvall.
