Do you know how many first round picks it would take for the Canucks to retain $20 million dollars over the next 8 years? Absolutely horrendous.

Not only that, you are selling incredibly low on Horvat. Nick Foligno got a better return than that and he had 16 points in 42 games when he was traded. Horvat already has more than that in 16 games

I don't think the return for Miller will be anywhere near what he could have commanded before his extension, but he would have been offered a similar contract in FA so absolute worst case scenario the Canucks should be able to trade him for future considerations without retention. I think he could still command a B prospect and 2nd round pick at minimum, more if his form improves

Zero chance of Allvin eating 2.5m on Miller over 7 seasons especially for that return.

And Bo Horvat will get a better return than a late 1st and 5th round pick. Reportedly there are 6-8 teams after Horvat. A 1st and a 5th round pick would be the least of his return and would get far better.

If I were the canucks I would take this trade and run. A chance to get two of bedard/fantilli/Michov/Carlsson is easily worth the 20 million in retention

He is a point per game and scoring at a 40 goal pace. If this is considered underperforming, then I can't imagine what 100% Miller looks like (hope it means more defense)

JT Miller is not the missing piece for the Ducks to suddenly start succeeding. Our offense is currently one of the best we have seen in 10 years, its our defense that has gone to hell in a hand basket.

We decline this deal.

I agree, trading Miller for a lower return is better than retaining. I do think he can be moved still but given the cap landscape and the Canucks poor management of the situation they're not in a position to be making demands in a Miller trade.

For us, its not a super high bar to jump over. Anaheim has, kind of since its founding, focused on Defense and Goaltending, and tried to have enough offense to get over the hill. At least, any time we have been remotely successful, that's how the team has been built. Insert joke here about small market teams not being able to retain star talents.
