Description
I'm just playing with ideas.

Horvat makes sense for us, I guess. He fills our 1C spot better than any of our current centres. He is a great role-model for Rossi, a leader and a skilled guy. He is also not a long-term commitment, if we don't want to / can't afford to commit. We have the prospect ammo to acquire him.

I don't know. I'm probably getting murdered over this but I don't care.

Détails additionnels:
Do the Nucks need D-prospects? We have plenty of them. If you want more offensive players, Hunt and Lambos are your guys and if you want to take the more physical, defensive route, I recommend O'Rourke. What else needs to be added for a rental?

Jost is here to make the salary work. He has a 2 million deal that expires after this season.

Jost and Hunt have minimal value, you need to add a prospect of value along with that 1st for Horvat

Personally, I think the Giroux trade is a good comparable for Horvat. Horvat for 1st, Prospect, and a 3rd, with minor pieces added to either side to make the deal work. Canucks need defensive prospects, specifically defensively-minded RHD. I think this offer probably gets beat by another team with a better prospect, not really sure who the Wild have that would be of interest to the Canucks.

You need to upgrade those pieces. Reports are that there could be a bidding war for Horvat. He is having a career year

Hunt has value if you scout him for more than a minute. But as I said, it could be Lambos, as well.

Hard to say he is having a career year after 14 games. It looks like it, sure, but it also could be a hot stretch. That's why this deal would be done at the deadline, when we know more. What would you upgrade? Changing Hunt to Lambos would be the first step, depending on who you like more.

I get it, but giving up Lambos, our best defensive prospect, for a 2nd line center would be foolish.

Because that's what he is, no matter what this streak says. And I've seen the comments saying he's worth $7M or more. He's not. I wouldn't give him anything more than $6.5M per, at the most.

If the Canucks want anything beyond a B-level prospect, a Hunt or O'Rourke, screw them. Horvat's not worth it. And I say that with the caveat of loving the guy and would be ecstatic if he was acquired.

Given the knowledge and fact that we would be acquiring him strictly as a rental. None of Lambos, Faber, or Addison should be made available or on the table for Horvat.

Period.

Bidding war or no.

2nd-line centers shouldn't get anything beyond a B-level prospect.

Which is exactly what Hunt is. A defensive prospect who plays a strong 2-way game and despite being a LHD, can play both sides. He also has 2nd pairing potential and upside.

The thought or notion that Horvat would command a better prospect than that is insane.

If someone else wants to overpay for a 2nd-line center, fine. Good for them. But it shouldn't be Minnesota.

Guerin has said no such thing.

What he's always stated is that he won't overpay for something. But if a trade can make the team better he'll do it. Provided he considers it a fair trade and exchange and not an overpayment.

And for the record, Fleury could have been a 1st round pick provided we had made the Western Conference Finals last year and he had 4 wins in the playoffs. That trade was a conditional 1st or 2nd depending on the results for what was considered a *rental* player.

That shows that Guerin IS in point of fact willing trade 1st's for a rental.
