Man, I hate crapping on a guy that I think gets absolutely thrown to the wolves every night, but my beloved Ducks are absolutely not getting that return on Gibby, regardless of whether he wants to play in Toronto or not.

And again, anyone who watches the Ducks play knows that he absolutely gets pummelled a-la Felix Potvin when he was in a Leafs uniform, but I just can't see this type of offer being made.

Boys, Gibson has made it known that he wants to be on a contending team. Leafs are obviously closer than the Ducks. So with that in mind I feel like Gibson would be happy to go to the Leafs, rather than rotting away in Anaheim. Just my two cents.

100%. And you know, I don't even mind...Sure, I absolutely feel bad for him, because I know that an Eakins-less system *should* help his numbers bounce back up, but even if it didn't, he's still a lot of fun to watch.

This is the first time that I had compared him to that mid-90's Potvin, but it definitely reminds me of it...just hung out to dry most nights. The unfortunate part is that in the middle of making a number of incredibly athletic saves, and being pummelled with 40-50 shots a night, he'll inevitably let a stinker in here and there which, to be fair, have very little effect on the end result of the games anyway, because my poor, beloved Ducks stink right now.

That's a pretty weird take given that his agent said "John Gibson has absolutely no interest in playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs, he is committed to the Ducks". That'd be an odd thing to say if he was in fact interested in playing for the Leafs.

I didn't know that. That for sure makes it interesting. But i'm sure players have said all kinds of stuff in the past, but secretly thinking otherwise.

I did. A 3rd and Muzzin, if healthy can be a useful D-man.

He said it this offseason when there were rumors that Toronto was trying to trade for him, as in a few months ago. He wants to win in Anaheim.

I don't know man...I'm not saying Toronto isn't a desirable market, but the vast majority of contracts that have trade protection like Gibby's, (reportedly) include the majority of Canadian teams. That quote was in response to the many rumors that Toronto media was trying to rustle up last spring before Dubas inevitably traded for Matt Murray.

muzzin has been hurt for the better part of a year now. a wise man would wait and see 15 sample games before they say hes still useful. over the hill and with a large history of injury, already declining in play when hes actually in the roster for a change, all factors that point to him maybe costing a lot more than a third to dump at 0% retention

If we were to even consider trading Gibson (we're not) we would need to go and find another starting goalie who we can throw to the wolves for a couple of years until the defense is solidified enough to bring Dostal up. This is a guy who can start 50+ games a year, remain healthy, we can get for cheap, and WANTS to be there. Who are we going to be able to get? Anyone with even the most minor trade protection likely has Anaheim on their list.

Gibson faces 36 shots per game, which is more than any other elite goalie in the league except for Carter Hart (37 -- and remember how people were saying "he's done" after the 2020-2021 season and trading him for a fourth-round draft pick?), who is off to an incredible start. (Next are Connor Hellebuyck, at 33.2, Ilya Sorokin at 29.9 and Linus Ullmark at 28.) He's not someone we're giving up because, as @GiggyWithGibby says, who are we going to replace him with? The only way I can see Pat Verbeek trading him is for a top-10 draft pick, which by definition won't be to a contender, and then John will veto any such deal.

Meh, if someone offered this for Gibby, we'd be fools not to take it. *IF* we're trading Gibby (yeah, we're not, but let's entertain it for a second), I wouldn't be overly worried about the rest of the season. Ride Stolie, grab somebody off waivers when it inevitably happens, and sprinkle a few Dosty starts in there. Not a concern, at all. Then, this summer, you either re-sign Stolie, or you grab one of the UFA goalies that's sitting on the market, and have them ease Dosty in next year.

Regardless, I don't think any of it follows the time line, and if we're having the same defensive issues next year as we currently are, then the build has hit a friggin' brick wall, which is a very, very bad thing.

The 3rd is for Schenn, which the Canucks still might not do. It’ll cost a 1st+ to dump Muzzin on us

I read with interest and regret your fruitless discussion with one of CapFriendly's snottier ignoramuses in another thread. You have, as always, my sincere sympathy. I had a similar run-in with the jerk some time ago, and now know enough not to make anything more than a neutral observation in response to any of his posts.

Welcome to CapFriendly! Sometimes, it's not too friendly.

If I can give you any advice about enjoying this site, it's that the nastier and more personal the criticism any of your comments or ACGMs may get, the less attention you should pay to them.

Oh man…very much appreciated…it was easily one of my worst experiences on here. Legitimately thought we were having a serious discussion until he just took a U-turn and tried to create a head on collision. So many great convos on here, only to have somebody try their hardest to make themselves look like a fool. Quite unfortunate and certainly not something that I would have intentionally wasted my time getting into. Cheers!

As I told @AntonTheHockeyGuy2000 above, the nastier the opinion, the less you can trust the judgment. Everywhere.
