The idea that EK is worth a bag of pucks because of his contract is so out to lunch it doesn't deserve an intelligent response.
He's 2nd behind only McDavid in goals right now as a defenseman.
Even when he was playing badly and not worth his contract he wouldn't have been given away for free

Who is trading for him? No one.

1st of all only 3 teams in the league can even afford him.
Even if you eat half of his salary (highly unlikely), that bumps it up to 5 teams.

Out of those 5 teams, MAYBE the Ducks would.

He's basically worthless with that contract. SJ has no leverage.

But none of this points to SJ magically giving him away for free or that he's available for free, which is your comment I was responding to. Sure players can turn into massive negative value that teams want to dump, but EK is obviously valuable and not a dump, or free, because he's carrying SJ.

It's obvious from watching tonights BUF game that Dahlin and Power have all the quarterbacking D skills you would need, so yeah EK to BUF doesn't make sense.

He's had a good start to the season. Are you happy with his cap hit for this year plus the next 4 years? If so, keep him. He's yours.

And yes, BUF has no need for him, which is why this trade is preposterous.
