Yea I know Toews is a rental. I just think your offer is a bit weak considering Zaitsev is going back the other way. It would take all of that to dump Zaitsev.

I think the offer I proposed would be better for both teams. Unless Chicago really didn't want to deal with the potential negative of Formenton. In which case make it a prospect who has higher potential upside than Gambrell.

That's far I was trying to promote gambrell as not a throw in but he is Maybe a 2024 2nd and 2023 2nd for our 3rd back with a prospect of Daoust, guenette or reinhart.

I doubt the Hawks accept anything close to this really. Zaitsev still owed $6.5M and Toews owed $2.9M. They'll retain before taking on Zaitsev. Let's put it this way. Dickenson cost a 2nd round pick and he's ~$2M less than Zaitsev. And Dickenson's actually been pretty good for the Hawks. Just mismanaged in VAN. It'll likely cost a late 1st (potentially early 2nd) just to shed Zaitsev.

They can get a better return for him elsewhere….

I kind of like the move for Ottawa, especially if they make the playoffs. I don't think the value is right, but I don't think it's horrible.

I think the problem is that Zaitsev has negative 1st round pick value. He has a horrible contract (and I cannot remember who gave it to him for some reason...) for what he can produce.

The trade is probably far closer in value by just removing him. But even then, the Hawks can afford to retain so I think they might do a bit better sending him somewhere else with retention.

I wonder why CHI would do that. Zaitsev is just dreadful, Gambrell is a fourth liner and those picks aren't even enough to dump Zaitsev in terms of value.
