I wouldn’t trade Coronato for Chychrun if it was one for one. This offer is ridiculously bad for the Flames.

No Chychrun on a pure value standpoint is worth Coronato for sure. Though from a POV of need it is a definite no

It may look that way now, but in two years the flames would be kicking themselves for making that trade one for one. That’s how good Coronato is.

Give Ottawa Tanev if you do this

To be clear I know that it is not a need. Without Kyl on the roster, as good as Stone has been, the mix of the group hasn’t looked as good as I thought it would.
Hannifin and Anderson are a very solid pair.
Tanev is a great shut down defender who compliments an offensive minded d man; however to my eye Weegar hasn’t looked that good with him. I think someone like Chych would be incredible beside Tanev.
Weegar is a guy that can balance out big Z.
Again I understand it’s not a need but Tre has a lot of history with Arizona and could possibly win that trade for us. If Coronato projects as good as people think on here. Maybe it’s Coronato a D prospect who’s close like Mackey and the 2023 1st.

I disagree with this. And I see it similar to how Lindholm and Huberdeau are still working out their kinks. Weegar is naturally a very strong puck moving defenseman, as the year goes on him and Tanev will gain synergy. 5 games is not remotely enough to draw a conclusion on 2 players who have never really even met before

there is no way the flames do that. Coronato + 2nd is what it would be with Coronato or just take him out here and change one of the firsts to two 2nds.

Fair enough, maybe I set the bar too high for Weegar to integrate smoothly. I just don’t see a problem with having an embarrassment of riches on d when the path there is not far fetched.

We already have an embarrassment of riches on defense and should be looking to upgrade the top 9 this TDL. Cononato is poised really well to replace Toffoli and has looked excellent in both Word Juniors and NCAA. Many scouts think he could step into the NHL right now. Trading him for a player that we don't need at all is horrible asset management.

Don’t get me wrong I really like Coronato, but for the purpose of my idea it had to be something that gets Arizonas attention. (That is the only reason I include him). I would also consider Pelltier and 2023 1st, but don’t know if that’s enough to get their attention.

two 1sts is enough to get their attention as the starting point is a top prospect+ 2023 1st or two 1sts. Might as well give them Kylington+ a 2023 1st + a sweetner.

Priority should be a Top-6 Forward, ideally a Right Shot C or RW, but Chychrun would be interesting. I personally think he's overrated and has injury issues, so the most I'd offer is:

2025 1st RD Pick-FLA (Top 10 Protected) + 2024 2nd + Oliver Kylington + Matthew Phillips (+ maybe another B Pick or Prospect) MAX, otherwise let him go to the highest bidder

If we did acquire Chychrun, my Pairings would be:

Chychrun-Anderson
Hanifin-Weegar
Zadorov-Tanev
Scratches: Mackey-Stone

Could then look to move Hanifin or Zadorov in the off-season and promote Mackey to 3LD if Cap Space is needed
