Leafs would be stupid bringing back the same roster year after year with minor changes on the fringe.

Yes because the leafs have been so horrible. If I'm being honest I agree but I don't see what good will come from running a crappier roster though.

nothing like making the team signifcantly worse to chase the toughness dragon. Brian Burke would be proud.

Moves for the sake of moves are bad enough. Moves to help miss the playoffs are mind boggling.

Leafs won't miss the playoffs because Kerfeet and Nylander aren't on the roster. Matthews and Marner carry this team.

There are many players that do their part. Nylander and kerfoot are two of them. Downgrading both of them does not make this team better.

Tavares is a below the dots, net front, slow the game down type of player. Kerfoot and Nylander are the exact opposite wingers. He doesn't play well with them.

So, to get the most out of his 11 million dollar captain, Dubas needs to provide him with wingers who play his style. Lee is a big body who goes to the net, and can tip in goals.

Like Matthews and Marner, Tavares isn't going anywhere because of his contract so it is critical that Dubas maximizes his talents.

whats youre explnantion as to why the leafs win this trade?
william nylander is wroth more than that whole package combined, ross johnston shouldnt be in the NHL, anders lee is 6 years older than nylander and nylander is much better, the first doesnt do anything, kinda crazy how this has to be explained

Lee is the captain, so that increases the price for the team acquiring him. He has four years left on a 7 million contract. I think Nylander will be gone after his contract is up next year, he will demand a ridiculous contract north of 9 million. Leafs need cost controlled players since they will be giving raises to Matthews and Marner on their next contracts.

The 1st can be repackaged to add at the deadline. It is a great thing to have an extra 1st round pick.

And most important of all, Lee's style of play compliments Tavares, and the same can't be said for Nylander.

Lee at 7m for four years is an overpay by any standards especially with a declining player. Sure don't want him gumming up the cap for four years. In two years the Leafs will have no more Murray, Muzzin, Nylander or Matthews contracts...that's 29m. A good GM can fill those spots with either resigning those players or getting offer players.
My opinion....no way is Nylander 9m player when the cap is 82.5m and IMO Matthews is not resigning with the Leafs.

Players can still perform well into their late 30s. Look at Pavelski. And adding more leaders is always a good thing.

I don't want the Leafs to lose Nylander for nothing in a couple of years, which seems to be the Dubas approach.
