Compher is the one the guy I think who has zero chance of being the regular 2C. I’d love for Kaut to force his way onto the team.

I think a lot of us wish that were the case but clearly Bednar values him a lot more than most fans do. JTC should be called "Garfield" because he has 9 lives as a middle-sixer with negative analytics but still gets to play some pretty big minutes plus PP time (also, he's a ginger).

I think Kaut should be on the roster and it would be nice for him to get some more games; he could help spell the older guys. But Bednar likes is bottom-sixers to be try-hards who just play "see-puck, get-puck." That doesn't describe Kaut; he's more cerebral than that.

kaut just isn't a fit for the avs.

True enough - he just may not be the right guy for this team under this coach. In that case, they should try to trade him before they just lose him on waivers.

Until I see otherwise I think the likeliest 2C right now is son-of-Bednar. He also worked ok with Lehkonen and Rantanen in the SCF when Kadri was out.

But yeah I hope its not him at 2C. I hope they give Newhook a few games at 2C to sink or swim, and failing that put Rantanen there for a while.

yea i was hoping they'd move him 2 years ago. they held him too long.

You just know Alan Hepple is licking his lips at the thought of grabbing one of his top draft picks on waivers. Also Chicago could probably do with a forward like him as well.

IK his metrics aren’t great, but I’ve always liked Compher’s game. My only real issue with him is the stupid penalties.

Avs fans mainly take issue with the fact that his physical play became almost nonexistent after he signed a $3.5m x4 year deal. He's also tended to drag down the on-ice metrics for any player he plays with.

That said, he's still a consistent ~0.5ppg player who can play any situation or position which is useful to have.

Him dragging players metrics down is weird. Maybe it’s cause he gets moved up in the lineup whenever someone gets hurt? Your numbers should go down if you go from playing with Burakovsky to playing with Compher.

I think what's most relevant are his CFRel and FFRel which are in the negative - he brings his linemates down. He also gets a production boost from getting decent PP time. He's probably more a 25 point player but benefits from more playing time than he maybe should get. He's an okay hockey player but overpaid and he doesn't make his teammates better; his hockey IQ is, at best, average and he is very inconsistent with the way he plays.

If his relative corsi and fenwick are down that makes sense to me. There were 7 or 8 Avs forwards who r just flat out better than him on last years roster. Ur numbers r gonna be better if ur playing with someone like Burakovsky instead of Compher.

I went and looked at who he plays with most often and it isn't the higher-level players a whole lot. I'd expect a guy making that much money and playing an important role to help make his linemates better.

I would keep Kaut as an extra fwd to allow Helm/Cogs some load management. Drop Meyers down to 4c and put Kaut on his right. It's a long season with a lot of easier games that Beds can play him in. Hopefully he has a step forward in his game this summer and can move at the pace Beds wants. He is a fast enough skater and really smart, just have to put the two together. If not, he probably gets waived around Thanksgiving and adds to the failed prospects the Avs have been consistent with. His defensive skill is what edges him out over Maltsev. Meyers and ERod remove any potential center favoritism for Maltsev

It's not a bad idea to carry Kaut, but the problem with doing that is that it limits the Avs capspace to $1.6m which probably won't be enough to cover bonuses. Maybe they'll carry him early in the season to give him one last shot but if he doesn't play well I don't think he'll last long.
