-Jake Muzzin doesn't waive his NTC to leave his Cup-contending, hometown team. BEYOND THAT, Washington isn't giving you a 1st and a 4th (and the corpse of Carl Hagelin) to add nearly $3M more to their cap. You're dreaming with this one.

-Since we nixed the first trade, and all you're doing here is taking the assets you got for Jake Muzzin and adding in Topi Niemela, we can assume this wouldn't happen. But for fun, let's look at it - Niemela and a 1st is a good start, sure. That 4th will cover the 3x$600K retention you're asking for, I guess. But Carl Hagelin is coming off an injury and multiple surgeries that left him with less than 100% vision in his eyes. Can he make it back? Sure, I could see it happen. But even beyond that injury, he's a 34 year old winger who set his career high at 38 points in his rookie season and hasn't come close since. He's got 2x$2.75M left and is a bottom-6 winger. He adds no value to this trade. Toronto adds something -BIG- to this deal if they want to get it done - another high pick or good prospect, otherwise Arizona shops this deal around the league and it gets beat by any team who actually wants Chych on their team.

The difference between Muzzins value and Chychruns is much more then Niemala. Toss in the leafs first and probs also upgrade the fourth. NTM Washington is not giving up a first for Muzz even if he would Waive.

Why wouldnt the Caps just attach a prospect to that package and get Chychurn themselves?

Washington doesn't need or want Muzzin, never mind the price, with 5 guys under contract who can play LD and a cap problem that is only temporarily vitiated by putting Backstrom and Wilson on the LTIR list. Moreover, he won't bring back anything more than a fourth without retention, and you don't want Hagelin anyway, a sentiment which goes double for Arizona -- a team looking to rebuild on youth.

Chychrun is going to cost you Robertson, Niemela and your 2023 first at least but I'd be willing to bet Armstrong holds out for Knies.
