The first is obviously enticing. Barrie is whatever. Lavoie is a bust

I think habs would accept as the would do
Savard with 1M retained for Barrie = take on a bit more salary but shed one year of term
Then it leaves Evans for a 1st which Habs would obviously take although I really like evans though

Barrie being not able to defend vs Savard being half decent defensively makes me think it could hurt MTL more than help.

Edmonton declines hard. There's nothing there that Edmonton wants and CERTAINLY nothing worth a perennial 50 point defenseman and a 1st round pick.

I'm pretty sure that's what MTL wants, so they get 1st Overall and Win the Connor Bedard Sweepstakes.

Oilers wouldn't be interested in Savard, they'd want Joel Edmundson, but wouldn't be offering no 1st Round Pick. They'd go with Nikita Zaitsev before paying more for and taking on an extra year of David Savard. They would be interested in Evans, but likely for a couple B Prospects and/or Picks.

Barrie's a Stud Offensive D-Man & Power Play QB on a Team Friendly Contract who just needs a responsible Defensive Partner 5on5

5v5 GA/60 last season
Barrie: 2.51 (-0.32 Rel) he gave up fewer than teammates (-)
Savard: 3.51 (+0.88 Rel) he gave up more (+)

5v5 xGA/60
Barrie: 2.56 (+0.06 Rel)
Savard: 3.08 (+0.35 Rel)

5v5 SCA/60
Barrie: 27.65 (-0.69 Rel)
Savard: 35.33 (+5.30 Rel)

5v5 HDCA/60
Barrie: 10.69 (-0.71 Rel)
Savard: 13.13 (+0.28 Rel)

5v5 Defensive Zone Starts/60
Barrie: 7.47
Savard: 7.96

Savard is much, much worse defensively than Barrie. Plus he brings no offense. He's done - keep him.

Agreed, I want nothing to do with Savard as a Secondary Oilers Fan and certainly wouldn't pay more than Barrie to get him.

Edmundson would be the better fit and either move Kulak to RD or give Vincent Desharnais a look, he had a Very Good Year in Bakersfield Last Season

I don't like Barrie Defensively, but that's not his Forte and he's certainly not as bad or a cap dump like a lot of ppl on these sites believe. EDM just needs a Big Strong Penalty Killer more, since Bouchard is the Future and has essentially made Barrie expendable, not to mention they need Cap Space

This is where advanced starts hurt, more than they help. Theres a ton of variables missed with that. Watch one shift of both guys and its incredibly obvious savard is better defensively

He used to be, but has lost a step or two. He was bad 2 years ago with CLB and TBL, MTL stupidly didn't realize that the cliff had come and overpaid for him. Now they're stuck with him - nobody wants him. He's too slow to defend at the NHL level anymore.

He’s lost a step or two for sure. Leaving him only 25 steps ahead of Barrie defensively.

LOL. Sad little man. The facts are that Montreal is better off defensively when Savard is on the bench... and that's his only (tenuous) claim to an NHL job. He's done.

Edmonton isn't interested.

The Biggest Variable being Offense, which Barrie's more than makes up for his Defensive Weaknesses, can't say the same for Savard.

Very weird that you try to make it personal. Says a lot about you. Sorry you get so defensive when someone doesn’t think a player on your favorite team is good.

Stats tell a certain story that if you don’t understand hockey will make you feel like you do.

Evans would be a good fit on the Oilers, especially next season after Ryan is gone... but that first rnd pick has absolutely no business being in there... pass on Savard as well.

The facts show you're wrong. Because of course they do.

Barrie has a positive GF% Rel in 8 of his past 9 seasons, including his 2 years in Edmonton. His playoff performance was top notch too.

Agreed in the short term but long term, removing one year of term and getting the first makes up for it especially since we don’t want to be good next year

What facts? It’s a subjective premise. Listen quit with the fancy stats. I just don’t care. Do you have any opinions of your own, or if I want to know what you think can i just go to naturalstatrick?

What facts? Go back and read post 7 and 19. Just because you don't understand what GF% Rel means, doesn't make it meaningless or 'not a fact'. tears of joy

The fact is Barrie outperformed his teammates 8 of the past 8 seasons. So the team is better off when he's on the ice, unlike Savard.

Keep your garbage. Nobody wants him or his terrible contract.

Well it’s not a fact. You’re confusing numbers and facts.

Player X scored 20 goals can be a fact.
Player X has a gel%RF whatever of 52 can be a fact.
So and so’s team is better off defensively when they’re off the ice is subjective.

Honestly it’s a huge reach to try to say that a player is good or bad because of fancy stats is a fact.

Meh. Next year after Ryan is gone, the Oilers will still have 5 better natural centers than Evans. I don't see any need to trade for a 27-year-old bottom-6 center with the center depth that they have.
