I’m sure if Drury assures Lundkvist a spot on the team that he will report to training camp. European players like Lundkvist have the opportunity to earn big money in salary playing in their home countries league. Thus the idea of playing in the AHL only $70,000 instead of making $925,000 in the NHL, is completely unacceptable.

No way anyone is paying anything more than a 2nd. NYR are in a bad spot with him. He wants to play, not ride the bench, there isn’t a spot on the team for him for years to come, he isn’t a proven player. Every team knows this.

Even a 2nd might be tough but he is behind some really good defensemen.

This is the right sentiment with the wrong reasoning. He's more than happy to play in New York, but he'd prefer to be moved somewhere he isn't behind Jacob Trouba or Adam Fox. They should easily get back a great C prospect for him. You are trying to argue his value is hurt, but that's bull. He's team controlled for the next 5 ish years. Lundkvist has no leverage, and Drury has been very vocal about how the Rangers will not move him if the valuation isn't met. Look at Kravtsov or Gauthier. Both want out, neither value has been met, both are still in New York.

Gauthier is worthless, not even an nhler. Kravstov couldn’t make the lineup so he left, who knows if he will this season though he should. Lundqvist is behind Fox, Trouba and Schneider all on the right side. On the left they have Miller and lindgren ahead of him. There’s a lot jam after that. It’s a long road to get into that lineup and teams know that. He can go off to Sweden and be useless for NYR when they want that high of a return.

Gauthier's an NHLer, he just has to put the pieces together. New York are awful with their forward development. See Chytil, Lafreniere, Kakko, all who have not reached their potential.

Kravtsov left because of issues with the old management group. That was made fairly clear. You try to make the case Kravtosv isn't good enough to make the team yet he's made the Rangers team before. It's a terribly uninformed take. Either that or it is lazy. Either way, I don't think it is a justifiable take.

Lundqvist is retired. If you're trying to understand why Lundqvist isn't playing for a RD spot, he's 40. Nils Lundkvist started last year as their 3RD, and they kept chopping and changing, eventually they settled on Schnieder, but Braden Schneider is by no means a lock for that position. Lundkvist's underlyings are actually better than Schnieders. It makes no difference since showing underlying numbers to Chris Drury is like showing a chimpanzee a telescope, but again, this take is lazy and illinformed. Lundkvist may return to Sweden with Lulea, and he'll go back to being one of the most dominant defensemen in the history of the SHL. That won't hurt his value. It'll only enhance it. New York have 5 more years of team control. There's no reason for Drury to sell for anything less than market value on someone that is still considered one of the best defenders to have not made the jump to the NHL full time.

No one is giving a first (or the equivalent) for Lundkvist. I guess Drury holds on to him and takes a chance his value drops further if that is indeed the ask. It will probably be another plateauing prospect swapped one for one and Drury will call it a win and move on.
