I would think Habs accept that.
Crazy that makar is only at 9M….unreal deal for Colorado. He could be at 12M

With Erik Johnson’s 6M off the books next year, I would think mackinnon gets at least 5M of that for a total of 11 or 12M.

Might have some issues signing newhook and byram though. Unless they let compher walk.

Compher is definitely walking and they have to trade Girard at some point. They can’t have Makar Toews Girard Manson Byram making big bucks

Avs could bring back Compher for cheaper than Dvorak. If Girard is a cap casualty, then a lesser value Dvorak shouldn't be suggested. Neither will be on the Avs next year. Girard being moved doesn't have to be now or next off season depending on bridge deals and the rising cap. They can hold out and get a real return for Girard or an affordable 2nd pair ld/rd

COL is a hard decline for a number of reasons. They aren’t trading their 23 1st period, it’s the only pick they have. The move puts them over the cap and they would then have to move somebody to be cap compliant because they aren’t running the season with MacDermid as the 7th dman, then they have to fill that spot somehow. But most importantly Dvorak isn’t a 2C. Easy no.

Rookie Newhook (2021-22) 13g, 20a=33 points. 908k aav
6 yr vet Dvorak career high(2019-20) 18g, 20a= 38 points. 4.45mil aav

If they don't in Alex Newhook, then they sure as sh*t wont have a 2c in Christian Dvorak.

I don’t care about Dvorak going to the Avs or not, I’m just saying Toews-Makar Byram-Manson should be the top 4 going forward

You wanna make bad offers that goes both way
A 2nd and one of the prospect you mention isn’t even being consider
Imagine Lehkonen for Barron wasn’t even considered, you think a 2nd is the main piece for Dvorak ? Kent Hughes isn’t in a bad position to trade Dvorak, he doesn’t have too. Only with Jeff Petry he had no leverage because Petry wanted out

My bad on that first part. I can't wait for the days of Byram-Makar, Toews-Manson. This season it's likely going to be Toews-Makar, Girard-Manson, Byram-EJ. Who is the 3rd pair and who is the 2nd will be a game by game thing and probably only matter to fans. Byram will get extra reps with Makar and EJ will drop a bit. I expect to see Makar, Toews. Byram and Girard playing 22+min every night. The way the Avs generate offense from the back end means they can afford to pay Toews(4.1), Makar(9), Byram(4-6) and Girard(5) the big bucks. This cap can't go up quick enough for the Avs tho.

I was so wrong on Lehkonen. I thought it was an overpay but even with his new deal I now think the Avs won that trade. Barron will be a mighty fine nhler but, I would rather have Makar/Manson/EJ during a run than Barron. Hot take, the Avs lost their best rhd prospect to the Ducks.

They could also go with Byram-Makar, Girard-Manson as the top 4 and trade Toews as a pending UFA next off-season when teams can negotiate an extension with him. He'll be more expensive long-term than Girard, and is only under team control for two more years so that could well be their plan. Use Toews to get a long-term 2C like they did with Barrie.

Yeah this roster isn't technically over the cap, but it would put the Avs in a bind as soon as there were a couple of short term injuries. It's very unlikely that they roll this close to the cap, especially with $3.55m in potential performance bonuses. They probably actually have an internal cap set at $79.5m to leave ~$2m free to cover bonuses and avoid having overages in 2023/24.

As for Dvorak, he'd be a perfect solution, apart from the fact that he's not very good.

I just don’t see which contender team can trade a good young 2C while having the money to extend Toews … I tried with LAK but both side didn’t like my proposal

I don't think it will be from a true cup contender. Quick browsing shows LA, WPG, NSH, Vegas, Sens(more Girard than Toews), Philly, NJ, NYR and a wild card Ducks have a need for Toews but I don't know. Det and Stl would give an arm n leg to replace their left side but I don't see a move there.
I've come to learn to trust the Avs pro scouting. If they bring someone on, they've done their due diligence.

Top pair Dmen are always in demand and teams make room. Just look at Vegas jettisoning Schmidt to make room for Pietrangelo for example (though Vegas are an extreme example admittedly).

Toews also won't have as much mileage as an UFA as most guys his age since he came into the league late.

It also wouldn't have to be a direct trade for a 2C from the team who gets Toews. It could be a three way trade where you get some futures from a contender and flip them to another team for a 2C.

The teams you named make zero sense. At least try to be a little realistic WPG LHD : Morrissey Dillon Schmidt Stanley Heinola Samberg NSH LHD : Josi McDonagh Ehkolm Lauzon VGK LHD : Theodore Martinez McNabb Hague OTT LHD : Chabot Sanderson Holden Brannstrom PHI LHD : Provorov Sanheim York Zemula alright I stop there it’s just ridiculous the teams you named.

I agree with the bottom part, but Vegas didn’t have RHD, so they traded out a LHD to make room for a much needed RHD

One year is a long time in hockey. There will absolutely be numerous teams interested in Toews in 2023 if Colorado float him on the trade market at the draft.
