Description
If Dumba really likes it in MIN, would he be willing to take a deal like this, which would allow MIN to move Addison for a high potential young forward

I have thought this as well, however, it has been reported from the Wild beat writer that the wild have been quietly shopping him, (I don't know how quiet it is after something gets reported however) and they haven't had much interest at all. The only team that he has heard that has shown interest is TOR, which, well they cannot afford to pay anyone.

I can’t see Dumba taking less than a 5 x $4.5-5 deal, but who knows…

If teams dont think he is worth his $6M deal that he is currently on for one year, that's what leads me to believe that there won't be a market for him at $6M in FA.

I honestly have no idea, he perplexes my like none other. If he goes out an has 10-15+ goals and plays somewhat decent, he could get like $8M on the open market or if he plays like he has the last 2 years, its like he'd be lucky to get 3

Obviously Minnesota thinks he is worth 6M because he's still on their team instead of those insane buyouts

I guess I am not quite following? He is under contract at $6M from an extension that he was given by a previous GM, they have extended 3 defensemen now in Mittleton, Goligoski and Merril, all of which taking money away from a potential extension for him.

The only thing taking away money is the buyouts. They had a chance to trade Dumba last year but instead chose to buy out Parise and Suter. There is a very high chance that simply due to costs Dumba will not be a member of the Wild for the 23/24 season and forward because he's not going to take some crazy pay cut for way less than what he is worth. Top 4 RD will always be a commodity in the NHL so some team will certainly pay him

The parise and suter buyouts were because they were extremely toxic in the lockerroom?

That only emphasizes my point of them choosing Dumba over Parise and Suter

At 6m it's hard to fit him now, but teams will be able to reallocate cap when players come off the books/retire next year and after trades. So I wouldn't be surprised if he got at least 5.5m in free agency next year.

Teams looking to acquire him as a rental now would probably need him in the 4-4.5m range.

I cannot be more confused by what you are saying. There is correlation and causation, and I don't think you understand that. They lost their second best player on the team this year because of the buyouts - Suter and Parise had to go, regardless of consequences.

But what would his worth be to those teams?

For teams acquiring him as a rental, I'm sure they would love to acquire him without giving up a 1st, so maybe something equivalent to a 2nd+3rd or two 2nds, a conditional 1st. Retention by a 3rd team will have to be paid for as well, unless the Wild can get a low cap hit piece.

The Wild are in contention so their ask is going to depend on if Addison can replace Dumba this season. If not then they will have to acquire someone and whatever the market for a replacement will determine their ask. The trades they make will have to be about improving their team mainly, not just recuperating assets. Also, if Severson gets traded for a large haul, then Minnesota will ask for something similar.

Maybe they could trade Dumba for Barrie+, or perhaps they extend Dumba for 2 years and move Zuccarelo which seems like it will be hard because of his hit, age, and NMC.

You shouldn't be surprised or disappointed that he didn't get traded if he ends up being an own rental.

Interesting that you think Zuccarello should be moved as well, that has been one of the things that I have toyed with for a while, if I were the wild, I would try Boldy on a line with Kaprizov during camp to see if it works well, if it does, I would move Zuccarello off a career high in points, and no signs of slowing down, plus with his 8 team no trade NTC, he isn't impossible to move.
