Puljujarvi and a late 1st doesn't get Patrick Kane at $5,250,000. Edmonton needs to add more.

And no 3rd party GM is eating $2,625,000 on Patrick Kane for a lousy worthless 4th round pick. No GM is helping these teams that are up against the cap out without it being extremely painful. Try more like a 1st or 2nd round pick to retain $2,625,000 on Patrick Kane.

This is my first go with this idea. I'm trying to find a way for it to make sense for all teams.

If it's at the deadline, which it would probably be, this would be fine as long as we don't need that retention slot for anyone else.
If this is before the season it would need to be quite a bit more.

Even at the TDL a fair offer for Patrick Kane at $5,250,000 would be Puljujarvi+Bourgault+Edmonton's 2023 1st round pick. And since Edmonton has zero cap space at the TDL. A 3rd team would still need to retain $2,625,000 on Kane and that would probably cost at least a 2nd round pick just to do Holland the favor.

Only way I see oilers being in on Kane is if Leon or Connor suffered a potential season ending injury in which case retention won't be a huge issue. Otherwise why would they scoring isn't an issue.

I thin you are overthinking it a bit, all edmonton has to do is offer JP+Foegele+prospect+1st and then go from there, perhaps they still need a 3rd team to retain like 750k so that they can replace Foegele but that can be any team even a contender with some space for a 4th.

A fair offer all depends on where Kane approves a trade to.
Giroux netted a first and Tippet, who probably wouldn't really be in the nhl if it wasn't for his draft position and the potential he could have. He gave the Flyers a couple options for teams of I remember correctly.
Hall netted a second round pick but only gave one maybe two teams.
If Kane only accepts a trade to one or two teams the return will be less than expected. If Kane gives Chicago half a dozen teams or more he would accept a trade to then there might be a bidding war.

Why would Chicago help Edmonton out of their cap hell by taking Foegele? You'd need to attach a 2nd just to move him on top of what's already being offered. If this were the case they wouldn't need to retain more as for letting Foegele go would allow them to take on Patrick Kane at $5,250,000.

Well yeah, Seeing that he's probably not moving until the TDL. I'm pretty sure he'll be open to moving to more team then he's willing to go to now.

Foegele has a year left after this one at a relatively low hit, if the rest of the package is worth it at the end of the day they want to get value for Kane who would be gone the next year. If they have better options they will take them, but they aren't just going to say no we aren't trading Kane assuming he does decide that he wants to be moved. Chicago is going to need to hit the cap floor next year, and must stay above this year too, so they might take an even worse contract to make a deal work.

Wings not eating 2.65 million for a 4th. And you can not put conditions in trades for resigning with a new team.

Can't use that condition in trades anymore. Redwings could get a 3rd for the retention easily though.

Not even close to what Kane will cost. No way do the Hawks accept a 1st and JP for Kane
