That's why he can make the move he did, because he had too many draft picks
So it's good having a lot, but you can't keep drafting 14 players every drafts because you won't be able to sign 1/4 of those guys drafted
Anyway, a 5th + 7th is fair IDK when BorisHomerBagel want the Leafs to add a 6th

I like these moves. Wish we were moving players out though. I think we may run into contract limit issues. Dach & Poehling takes us to to 46 contracts and then Holl & Sandin would be 48. We can get into real trouble as we do not have a team to ice in the AHL and we can't send the Monahan, Drouin, Dadonov, Byron, Pitlick, Evans' of the world to play in Laval...

the other guy is right in saying no team ever had “too many picks” as a problem, but your also right the over abundance of picks allows Montreal to grab pieces they need now and on the future without hurting themselves!

have a feeling the ask is high on Lundqvist. or NYR are waiting to see if Schneider is top 4 ready before they move Trouba next offseason for cap space. who really knows but I thought they were going to move him this offseason TBH.

The other NHL ready prospect MTL have is Jesse Ylönen but he is stuck behind Gallagher and Armia anchor contract

he has a good contract and would attract a lot of attention! if Schneider and Lundqvist are ready for 2nd and 3rd pairing i wouldn’t be shocked to see him moved! especially with how valuable established RD quality guys are! Trouba could net 2-3 picks in the first 2 rounds and a prospect, or used as a swap for a top 6 wing and a pick.

They just named Trouba captain so I highly doubt they move him next offseason. IMO Nils gets a look on the left side as Schneiders partner before they make any decision on him. His ceiling is too high to just give him away.

Trouba is overpaid, by 2-3M at least, has a NMC and doesnt wanna play anywhere outside NY ... not a chance he moves

I do like him but he is overpaid, he is a 2nd pairing guy, a #3 dman at best

Klingberg couldnt get the big contract, I dont think Trouba could but anyway he only wants to play for NY

11 goals 40 points +25 with good size and plays a solid D. is a solid top pair RD to me!
the big reason Klingberg didn’t get high dollar and term is his agent screwed up and waited out the FA looking for a bigger deal. plus Klingberg was a huge liability on D with a -28 on a decent Dallas team that made the playoffs.

Trouba had a bounce back season, yes. But a season doesnt dertermine a player
It's like Jeff Petry being a top 25 dman in the last 4 years (prior to last season), and because he had one bad stretch under Ducharme, makes him a bad player ?
I consider both Trouba and Petry #3 dman, ideally on a 2nd pairing but can handle top pairing

They both are really good #4/3 guys and in good years decent #1/2 guys. there are a handful of teams where they would be clear cut #1 guys and other teams (like NYR) where they are more #2/3 guys.
As a sharks fan i would fall all over myself to switch Trouba or Petry with Karlsson. it's all perspective I guess and in a "what have you done for me lately" league Trouba looks the part of a top pair D.

I think NYR should accept that. If I was Drury I would. I mean is it fair value, maybe not? But Lundkvist haven't had the season yet to demand what he is actually capable off.

Besides I am at the point where I just want the kid to find a good home. I feel like MTL (looking at the roster) could be it. And when he does blossom NYR will regret that trade.

But rather he does well and regret it, then seeing he go to waste in the scrapyard of AHL. MTL isn't sending over their top center prospect when their is still some insecurity about what he can become.
