Extremely hard no by the wings, don't even understand the point of that? Pay to downgrade in net? I like vatrano but we have no room for him.

Why would Detroit remotely entertain this trade?

Trade a younger Nedeljkovic for an older Stolarz who isn't that good to begin with.

Yeah Detroit isn't doing this.

I wouldn't expect Yzerman to trade any 2023 draft picks unless it's for something really big. It's quite obvious when you step back and look at it Yzerman signed 10 UFAs to fill holes because this could be Detroit's last year in the draft lottery and he'd like to keep as many picks as possible. The only pick he spent was a 3rd on Husso and it wasn't because he wants to replace Ned. He wanted a younger goalie so they can push each other. Ned didn't play that bad considering he went from 23 games on a good team to 59 games on a bad team and that was way too much for a goalie in his 2nd year. Not only was Greiss unable to push Ned last season but with his bad play he was unable to even give Ned a night off. So basically I don't think Yzerman trades away picks or either of his goalies.

I don't think this deal makes sense for either team, given we just signed Vatrano and we have our goalie of the future already in the pipeline, we have no need for Ned.

Note that only Brian Elliott appears in 3 of those 4 categories, and there are some subtle indications that he played for a better team than Anthony Stolarz. In fact, none of the other goalies shown here played on a team that won fewer games than Anaheim last season.

This doesn’t include Antti Raanta and Pavel Francouz, whom I don’t consider backup goalies but rather 1b’s.

Man, props to you for putting this all together to really accomplish very little. Stolarz is average at best, regardless of whatever numbers he may have put up last year or any year for that matter.

Nonetheless, Wings vehemently pass.

Why in the world would Anaheim even consider this? Whatever difference there is between Stolarz and the three-times-as-expensive Nedeljkovic would be dwarfed by the enormous downgrade from Vatrano to Smith. Except for his 2017-2018 half-season, Frank Vatrano has had more points in each season than Givani Smith has had in his entire career.
