Description
Joining the recent string of Sandin for Vilardi trend. Personally I am not sure why LA would need to add.
20 man roster below. Which from what we have seen with Dubas is a possibility. He loves to bounce players around the LTIR.

Leaf fans need to get the blinders off about Sandin. What exactly is different between this kids first couple seasons and Dermott? One could argue in the first 3 seasons Dermott was better. Sandin has done nothing to warrant retrieving a top 6 player.

I really like Sandin and wouldn’t trade him for this package tbh. Also I think Dermott had decent metrics when he first got to Vancouver anyway. I wouldn’t compare Dermott to Sandin, but he’s not a bad player.

He has been better than Dermott from day 1 though. That's the difference. Leaf fans too often Wilt to the mob think that all their players suck

Tbh if I was Toronto I’d want someone a little bit more established. Vilardi is younger than Sandin and has proven less tbh. Whenever I’ve watched Sandin he’s really impressed me. Kid can play.

Correct and neither is Dermott honestly. If he's your 3rd LD, you have a sick 3rd pair LD. Sandin has so much more potential though

It's not bad. Fit Mike Anderson, Durzi and Sandin under LA's cap. Not sure how Blake feels about a 20-22 man roster with the older players he has on the roster.

Agreed. It’s a bad market to move veteran forwards rn, but a young d man always has value. This trade isn’t just selling low. It has the potential to be a Millbury level **** up.

Can you guys show me any evidence of Sandin in his first couple seasons as being a more valuable asset than Dermott was in his first couple seasons? Or anyone else on Cap Friendly?

I don’t really feel like looking for his player card rn lol. So I can really only tell you that based on what I’ve seen of both guys that I think Sandin is way better lol.

I'll be honest and say that during his first couple seasons I thought Dermott was going to be lights out...

Just not sure, Sandin while holding more value maybe in his position (LD/RD), is still unsigned and wants far more than vilardi.

Vilardi in limited stints has 37 pts in 89 games, so IMO they are almost even, except when it comes to sandin being unsigned.

I meant the part about the leafs and the mob lol. I like a lot of leafs prospects, which leafs fans would know if they weren’t so busy telling me how great Kerfoot is lol.

I think the real issue here is that Sandin isn’t far behind Vilardi in terms of points despite the fact he’s a d man lol. Also he’s a year younger than Vilardi.

While true, then youd have to look at team system (one is offensive powerhouse, the other is a defensive system) and team (one is a powerhouse contender, the other was a non-playoff), sandin was 7th or 8th among leaf dmen in icetime, on a team that was desperate enough for defensemen to play defense that they played a struggling holl over 20 minutes and traded for giordano and lyubushkin.

Not downgrading sandin, who I think had a solid third pro year and made it into 51 games, but he is no sure thing to get better and his pts and production is influenced by the quality of his team

Tbh you would have to ask the analytics junkies whether or not his player card is good or not lol. I have a Jfresh subscription but I’m too lazy to go searching for Sandin’s card lmao.

It is good, very good. Our fan base loves to run players out of town.

48B281F6-5750-4307-80E9-74A8557F08FE.jpeg?w=653&ssl=1

Last season, Sandin posted five goals, 16 points, a +9 rating, a 54.69% five-on-five Corsi-for percentage, a 58.28% five-on-five expected goals-for percentage, and a 58.17% five-on-five scoring chances-for percentage. The 1:21 per game that he averaged on the power play ranked third among Maple Leafs defensemen.

Sandin has not posted a five-on-five Corsi-for percentage lower than 52.41% or a scoring chances-for percentage lower than 52.66% in each of his three NHL seasons in addition to a five-on-five expected goals-for percentage of least 55.05% in each of his first two full ones.

I get why he isn't signed yet, Lewis Gross ( his other clients Gaudreau, Nylander) fights tooth and nail for his clients.

There is a log jam at LD for the next two years. IMO this is not about money but about fit and playing time. For me, he should just sign and MAKE the Leafs pick him over one of the aging vets by playing better, but that's me.

I think you've got it completely. SaNDIN was miffed to be sent up/down to AHL and he wants a spot, whether he earns it or not really. Ideally he'd learn RD, so could be a Holl replacement and he and Liljegren could fight over 2RD and 3RD, but it is troublesome for an RFA without arbitration rights to be fighting for a contract/position that he hasn;t earned

That's the issue tho, he has not looked comfortable playing his offside and even Kyle has come out and side he prefers him on his strong side (LD). Another reason for the hang-up in negations, he doresn't want to stunt his development by playing a position he is not comfortable with. It would be awesome if Gio or Muzzin could tho

There is potential but man Vilardi is such a wildcard in this case. His game really hasnt fully transitioned to the NHL and for a team like Toronto wanting to win now how long do they want to wait. Now there is a chance he comes in and immediately fits but idk from past cases often its a bad omen

Now there is someone on the kings I would look at (Kaliyev) but I doubt Kings move him. The other guy is with the Ducks. Lunderstrom is another guy I would eye.

To bad MTL swooped in but honestly the perfect trade would have been something around Dach

That said I doubt Sandin is traded and will instead give in sign a prove me deal and he or someone else will play their offside
