I would also expect them to go after another depth forward in this case. Maybe even keeping Sceviour around for another year.

There are no rumors about this one but it really makes sense for the Oilers to try to aquire a solid top D. Mayfield can definitely move the needle a fair bit. I would expect them to do something like this if they were to move Barrie out of the way.

You should pay attention to reality from time to time. Barrie had a positive GF% Rel for 8 of his past 9 years and was outstanding under Jay Woodcroft this spring - both in the regular season and in the playoffs.

2 years in a row he was terrific in the post season and that's the only season I give a crap about. Hmm side note that may also explain why I value foegele more than buffalo.

He isn’t like Samuel Girard. He can’t actually play any defense.

Have you watched Barrie in any of the playoffs with Edmonton. Think he's shown he can hold his own come post season.

Against the cup winner.... don't think any shame in loosing to Colorado. Was barrie to fault or could the list of injuries and suspect goaltending be the main reasons?

Tyson Barrie couldn’t defend a parked car.

Reminds me of an old joke of my Dad's:

Law school professor asks his class, What's the definition of "assuming the risk"?
Kid from Long Island says, Parking your car overnight in Manhattan with fewer than two Dobermans in it.

I get it. It’s kind of like.

Capfriendly user asks what’s worse than the Josh Bailey contract?

Islanders fan: Ilya Mikheyev’s contract.

Lol I am in Isles fan born in 2000. I’m more comfortable with them losing. When they start winning I assume something even worse is about to happen lmao.

I think it is more likely that edmonton trades Barrie for Hakaanpaa if they are doing that.

Stars say no all day long. Jani can’t offense. Barrie can’t defense. Better to keep the cheaper player. Def not giving a second for Barrie

He’s brutal dude. The number of secondary assists he has are crazy high lol.

First, I don't think you understand that secondary assists are the norm for a defenseman, and a high number of secondary assists is a good thing as it means the player is moving the puck out of his zone effectively.

Secondly, Barrie is ranked 19th in 5v5 points among defensemen for the past 3 years and is 17th in secondary assists. He also ranks 16th for primary assists (lol) so there's no imbalance there as you suggested.

I watched Edmonton get swept.

It was pretty close in the playoffs, and that's with injuries to several key Oilers. Here are Colorado’s stats in each series:

vs NAS: 59.66 xGF%, 62.69 SCF%, 56.58 HDCF%
vs STL: 59.84 xGF%, 62.93 SCF%, 62.89 HDCF%
vs EDM: 53.28 xGF%, 53.03 SCF%, 46.07 HDCF%
vs TBL: 60.57 xGF%, 60.20 SCF%, 56.73 HDCF%

Of all of Colorado's opponents, only Edmonton skated with them, even besting the Champs in High Danger chances. They were let down by major injuries to their starter, otherwise it would have been a much closer series.

As for Colorado’s vaunted defense, here’s how many high danger chances they allowed from each opponent:

NAS: 9.95 HDCA/60
STL: 6.89 HDCA/60
EDM: 15.06 HDCA/60
TBL: 9.00 HDCA/60

Again, Edmonton is the anomaly here. They had no problem against Colorado's defense, regularly penetrating it for high danger chances.

I do think it's pretty funny how you think you can mock a team that made it to the final 4 and played well against the best team in the league.

Read the article

I read the article. It's a micro analysis of a 30 game stretch where some media guys were majorly pumping Barrie's tires, JFresh is letting the air out a bit. Nothing wrong with that - Barrie doesn't belong in a conversation with Orr, Coffey and Potvin.

It's largely irrelevant to our conversation for several reasons:

- I've never stated that Barrie is a Bobby Orr level player
- I've looked at 3 years numbers rather than just 2.5 months, as the article did
- the fact that Barrie puts up a lot of points on the PP is a feature, not a bug - Edmonton's PP is much better with Barrie on it than off
- as I showed you already, Barrie's ranking for secondary assists is lower than his ranking for primary assists at 5v5 over 3 years

I am only talking about his even strength defense being a huge turn off.

Then you aren't looking at the facts. In the regular season this year Barrie was 3rd among Oilers regulars for GA/60, 2nd for SCA/60 and 3rd for HDCA/60 at 5v5.

In the playoffs he was 1st among Oilers defensemen for xGA/60, SCA/60 and HDCA/60, and 2nd for GA/60 (Kulak was a whisker better).

He's at least league average defensively (and likely a little above) while also being one of the top offensive threats in the league - top 10% for sure. At just $4.5M he's worth a lot more than a mid-2nd round pick.
