That is conjecture and completely debatable. And I have a tough time seeing him reasonably breaking 20 on our roster let alone 30.
The only way he potentially breaks 30 goals is if he's on a line with Kaprizov.
Which isn't happening. There's not a chance Zuccarello comes off that top line.
He'd be playing with Boldy. And while Boldy is a heck of a talent, Hoffman isn't Fiala. Given that Fiala is a much better player than Hoffman and he only had a 33 goal, 52 assists, for 85 points last year. Despite that number being likely higher if he'd had Boldy the entire year. I still don't see Hoffman putting up anything close to that level of production on our roster. Boldy or no Boldy.
And as far as Hoffman's contract goes. Yes, he's absolutely a cap dump. The Habs currently sit with $248k in open capspace. That puts them 22nd in the entire league for available capspace in that regard, which is unbelievable in its own right. Whereas the Wild currently sit 13th in the entire league in available capspace at $4.3M.
Bottom line, Habs need to move Hoffman's contract in order to open up cap space. That makes him a cap dump, whether Habs fans want to admit or not.
It means, you pay us in order to take him off your hands, and not we pay you for a player who likely isn't worth his contract to begin with. Simple, no?
The Wild are sending a 3rd pairing defenseman, a B-level prospect, and a 2nd round pick to Montréal in this trade just so they can take on a additional $2M in cap space for a player who isn't worth his contract and so Montréal can clear some capspace?
Uh, yeah....
