Laf is probably getting the same deal as Kakko unless he breaks out this year
If you ask me, Kakko would’ve earned a bigger payday if he didn’t miss half of the season. That injury gave management the perfect leverage to give him a “prove it” bridge deal. Lafreniere, on the other hand, appears to be in line for more top six minutes next season. He produces more on offense than Kakko and that’s going to drive up his contract.
My mindset specifically referred Lafreniere’s contract to Zibanejad’s five year deal (and K’Andre Miller to Brady Skjei’s six year deal). I have Laffy earning 6% of the salary cap, whereas Zibanejad earned a little more than 7% (he had greater production in Ottawa than Lafreniere has had in New York so far).

1. Wheres Chytil?
2. Likely moving at least one of Kreider or Trouba to make room for those deals.
3. Laf at least will probably be looking at something closer to the hughes deal. 8x8
1. Not in New York. The Vincent Trocheck contract sealed the fate for his future with the Rangers. I can’t see him remaining a 3C, especially considering his next contract will probably be larger than that of Barclay Goodrow.
2. That is only possible through the buyout route. Even if Kreider or Trouba waived his NMC for whatever reason, the Rangers will end up paying a ransom to move them even when they’re good players. For comparison, it was reported that moving Jakob Voracek would’ve costed Columbus a 1st and more, yet he only has two years left of an $8.25M AAV salary.
3. That won’t happen unless Lafreniere breaks out as a point per game player like Jack Hughes did. It’s not impossible but the chances of that happening are probably around 10% at best.
