Islanders need to add a top line winger. That isn’t Jonathan Drouin. The second issue is that Bjorkstrand was traded for a third and you want a second for drouin.

Why are you bringing up that trade? It’s irrelevant. You need a winger or two in that top 6. Drouin on your 2nd line setting up Nelson and Walstrom is a good situation

Of course that trade is relevant. If Bjorkstrand is worth a third than Drohin isn’t worth a second.

That’s not how trades work. In fact it’s not how any business transaction works. Columbus has to shed a winger to make room to sign Laine. They choose to shed a long term contract rather than one that’s up in a year in Nyquist.

Regardless it’s irrelevant to this deal. You need a top six winger. You get one at under 3 million for the season. You don’t find many top 6 guys for that cheap unless they’re a very good ELC

Isles don’t need Drouin tho. He’s injury prone and has barely played the past two years. Isles aren’t giving up a second for him even if you retain 50%. Maybe and I mean maybe you could get a third. But I doubt it.

Romanov isn't making 3.2 on a bridge deal. Think more Timothy Liljegren

If he’s injured obviously he won’t get traded. All of this is based off him not being injured. Injuries have been his problem. He’s absolutely top six guy when he is playing. His playmaking ability is too good to stay out of a top 6.

And trades are relevant to needs and wants. Player X got a 3rd rounder and he is better than player y, therefore y can’t be a better return isn’t rationale to how this works. Your team traded a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for Pageau. Ottawa just did that for Debrincat. We all know which player is a better player but it meant nothing because each deal is a separate transaction. If I am buying a house in Montreal and another person is buying a very similar house in Saskatoon guess who’s paying more for a house?

True. I was doing this more to show Isles fans Drouin would fit into their top 6

I’m not an expert on Canadian real estate, but the isles traded the 28th pick and the 59th pick for Pageau. The Islanders third from that trade was conditional on them winning the cup so it didn’t convey.

DeBrincat got a the 7th, the 39th and a future 3rd. The difference in value between those picks is ridiculous.

Tbh, there's no helping them. I think the isles are one of the ugliest looking teams in the league. Lou has really dismantled them nicely these last few years.

But the isles don’t need an injury prone forward with mental health issues. I used to like him but ur asking price is way too high. Isles should be targeting someone like Meier not Drouin lol.

Ok fair point on the picks. I forgot about the conditional 3rd. It was still quite a bit to pay for him. I’ll give you an American example: a 3,000 sq foot home on Long Island isn’t the same price as a similar house in Kentucky

Yeah but you can’t compare those two houses the same way you can’t compare those trades lol.

Each transaction is its own. That’s the whole point. There’s no such thing as one trade market. It only takes two GMs to hook up and make a trade baby

no one is giving up a second round pick for drouin unless he can prove he can play a full season (or at least most of one). dude's been extremely unreliable these past few years.

Ugliest team in the league with 3 top pair defenseman under 30 and a vezina caliber goaltender

It could be worse. The isles could have had the 1st pick in the draft and picked a future middle 6 winger over a star 1C

Drouin is not even close to the type of player the isles want. Availability is important, and there’s no guarantee he plays half the games next season. Plus he’s a mediocre middle 6 winger at best who can’t score goals.

You are also forgetting he's selfish quites on teams and refuses assignment.

Beauvillier and Anders are are both ignificantly better at generating offense than Drouin.

Lee is a goal scorer, completely different type of winger. Beauviller simply hasn’t proven to ever be a top 6 player.

Drouin has been terrible over the past 3 years. He's a fringe NHLer at this point.

He hasn’t played a full season in 3 years. He’s 27, his career is far from over. He’s a talented player who will find the right place to showcase that talent whenever he hits his UFA next summer. The injuries have held back what he could have been but players careers can still go in a positive direction at 27. There’s always room for a creative player in a lineup
