Friendly reminder that the Leafs traded a first round pick for Nick Foligno at the 2021 trade deadline. Nick Foligno had 16 points in 42 games prior to the trade. Nick Foligno only played like 10 games with the Leafs. Surely the difference between 99 points in 81 games is worth a lot more than 16 points in 42 games.
I mean that’s not really relevant at all is it? I’m pretty sure teams don’t negotiate trades that way. “Well you paid a first for a bust player over a year ago and our player is 4 times better so we need 4 times the cost” Just cause one bad trade was made doesn’t mean you make another lol.
Every situation is different.
Facts are:
Millers trade value is less than it was at the 2022 deadline (but still high) if he’s just a rental which he would be for the leafs
They would be like 6 million over the cap after this deal so leafs beed retention/money goes to Vancouver or somewhere else
They don’t have the depth at RD now or in the future to move liligren.
If Vancouver insists on an NHL ready RD in the deal then there is no deal to be made with Toronto.
Millers trade value will continue to decline as the season goes on if it’s clear Vancouver can’t resign him. Still easily get a first and a prospect at the deadline for him. But his value is highest now.
You can probably look at the debrincat deal as kind of comparable. Debrincat is younger and has 2 years of control so I assume has more value than Miller?
A first, second and roberston is probably lots of value.
