Description
They made the team worse. It’s what they do, just look at their track record of mediocrity. We need to have a down year to make the new owners fire these clowns

completely disagree. Rakell and Petry are great adds and Geno and Tanger are signed for under 13 mil combined. Marino trade and the Kappy deal are pretty meh, but we'll see how those all age

I'm pretty confused by what they're doing overall. It seems like for every great move they make another horrible one. Personally, love the Letang and Rakell contracts, thought the Marino and Petry trades were great, but the Carter, McGinn, Kapanen signings are just baffling, those 3 take up 9 mil, which is absurd. Think they completely miscalculated losing Tanev and McCann as well. Just so confusing. Not a huge fan of the Malkin contract either, but I am happy to have Geno back for sentimental reasons.

Wait until everyone figures out Petry is a considerably watered down Letang who’s not nearly as good in his own end. Wait until Dumo regresses more and that left side gets exposed. The forward group stinks. There’s absolutely no scoring depth. They’re a one and done team and they won’t be forcing a game 7 this time. Next summer you’ll see the truth and probably accept that I was right

Agreed...I'd take Marino long term over Petry, but other than that you're set up for a couple of years. Long term? Yikes, but hey, who cares about 3-6 years down the road at this point.

I may be in the minority, but I'd rather have Petry over Marino for the next year or two. His defensive game isn't as bad as people say, plus he can carry some of the offensive load from our defensemen.

I do agree with the bottom six. Offseason isn't over, but I'd rather have Nino (with Zucker sliding down) than Kappy at that number.

losing Tanev was probably their worst move. Loved him as a Penguin

I agree. Going into that offseason I think we needed the most were players who had a little bit of an edge and they decided to let go of the one player who had that. Ever since then the team has just felt stale. One more one and done or even if the team is stale halfway through I think Hextall and Burke are out. Some players bring more to the locker room than just their production, Tanev always brought that energy.

we'll see. If we're all being honest, I don't think any of us expected this offseason. All I wanted was Zucker and maybe McGinn gone, but it's not looking like that's gonna happen

Petey’s war has been trending downwards last 3 years and is 34 years old with 3 x 6,25 left on his deal. Having one pricey older d-man is one thing but I would be optimistic leaning heavily on petry and letang for the next 3 years

Leafs believed in Burke once (things went super well), Calgary had faith in Burkey (things were all rosey in Cowtown)
History repeats it's self in Pittsburgh (it'll be fine, really it'll be good)

Rakell isn't an add - they had him last year. The team roster is worse than they were at the end of last year. I think that is the point the guy is trying to make. The re-signing of Rust, Malkin, Letang, and Rakell were great, but that doesn't mean the team is better.

I think you'll see his numbers get a lot better when he's on the ice for 20 min per night as opposed to 25

That WAR is still really good. He also gets to go to a better team and play 2nd pairing.

Yeah I’m not saying he will be bad, I’m just saying committing 12 million in cap to two D-men in their mid 30s is high risk

I fully agree on that. I don't like the trade for cap reasons.

But Petry is still a great defenseman - and now he gets to play 2nd pair facing worse competition, and with a better team around him. I don't think his play will be an issue
