PLD trade that works

Description
Let me know what you think. It's a way I thought of of Winnipeg capitalizing on a clearly uninterested asset that they might lose for nothing in 2 years and using him to boost into a rebuild phase.
Transactions
1.
WPG
  1. Anderson, Josh (1 815 000 $ retained)
  2. Dvorak, Christian (1 468 500 $ retained)
  3. Hoffman, Mike (1 485 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Winnipeg can't get fair value for PLD out of Montreal with 1 or 2 players, and he's currently killing his market value with the help of his agent. So I thought of a way to do it in aggregate.

Montreal retains 33% out of Anderson, Dvorak and Hoffman and trade all three to Winnipeg for the RFA rights of PLD.

Retained salary of MTL would be $4.7M in total

Winnipeg then takes these three players and, in turn, retain 33% of their salaries and trade them for what I assume would be generous returns.

Josh Anderson supposedly has teams calling MTL constantly. At $2.4M for the foreseeable future, Winnipeg would be able to cash in big by trading him.

Mike Hoffman is a perrenial 20 goal scorer and PP specialist. On a team that has a good powerplay, he gets 20 goals per year almost without even skating, at $2M annually, he suddenly becomes very appealing.

Christian Dvorak has a reputation as a decent 2nd line center, I don't know where he got it or how, but he does. At $2M you've got teams looking for a luxury 3rd line center salivating.

For retaining $3.1M, Winnipeg could get multiple 1st and 2nd round picks + possibly decent prospects. A good way to power a team into a rebuild.
MTL

No one is giving up a first for Dvorak or Anderson and the Jets aren't moving Dubois for a cap dump, a player verging on a cap dump and an average 3C.

I think Chevy starts talking if the offer is Barron, Dach and a 1st.

So you think Anderson is good value at even 3.5m? Seems steep for 35 point player who probably isn't going to get better age 28 for the next five years. And you expect teams to give up a first and more?
Heck Pacioretty was given away.

Long term retention is rare, pretty sure what SJ did with Burns hasn't been done before and was a terrible move on their part, this isn't at all realistic.

Should've thought that this would summon the New Yorkers. Imagine he goes to Philly, they run on bad vibes.

Chuck Fletcher-ish GMs exist, you know. I don't like him, I never did.

Big body, big shot makes some men wet, apparently. CAPITALIZE!

Yes, but Dvorak and Hoffman end in 2 years, and Anderson's retention for Winnipeg would be 1.2 which ain't great, but is not Kyle Turris bad.

That would be really bad asset management from Kent Hughes & Jeff Gorton. 17M worth of retention is horrible for MTL. MTL would not me able to trade Dadonov, Drouin, Byron and/or Allen half retained at the trade deadline. A lot of value lost for a guy that MTL doesn’t need that much with Suzuki and Dach.

Dvorak has three years left.

Montreal is never doing the retention to start with, long term retention is rare, especially at these amounts.

This gets beaten (from a Jets needs perspective) at the TDL quite easily I think. If that was all the Jets was getting I would sign him to the arbitration ruling for 2 years and move him to Colorado/Florida/NY etc at the TDL and fill out positional needs more than what’s being offered here

There might be pressure on WPG to win-now, but they need to look at CGY and what happens when a star leaves as a UFA

Matter of perspective, I genuinely tried to advocate for WPG even though I'm a habs fan. Is Winnipeg really going to fetch something like 2 firsts and 2 seconds or equivalent value at the deadline? I doubt it.

With what his agent said, I think his value is cooked with other teams.

The classic “but it’s lou” line.

Lou traded 1sts for 3C the team desperately needed, a W when Lee went down with an ACL, and a 2 LD that is only 22. The Isles have no need, want or interest in Anderson.

Do you say 2LD for Romanov because he only had 2 primary assists in 79 games?

I could definitely see a 1st/good prospect/roster player who would fit better than what was offered above. I don’t expect a haul, I really don’t. But I could see ONE of Anderson/Dv, 1st and prospect like Barron. Doesn’t gut your system or core, gives you guys a stellar T6 for the next decade and is relatively cap friendly. If it too much that’s fine, he would get a similar package at the TDL to a competitor, even more so if he was signed for 2 years with 1/2 retention.

I’m sure Chevy is pushing for Montreal’s (with obvious serious lotto protection of course) but would probably land on Florida’s 1st with lesser protections. I do wonder if Florida takes a step back with Mo as the boss, but doubt they make the lotto

Habs arent retaining all that money long term for a player they'll grab for FREE in 2024 and would just ruin their tank. No interest

Chevy always reacts too late. Guy is awful. Supposedly, he turned down 3 assets from the Habs at the draft. Thankfully for the Habs. Giving away assets for a French "superstar" didnt work so well in the Sergachev for Drouin deal. Chevy did Hughes a favour with all the draft day pressure. Dach fits their timeline and came cheaper.

Romanov is in no way a number 2D. Guy has zero offense, he's a top4 at best and if you think Anderson has less value than Romanov, you're delusional with all the interest around the league. Lou traded that pick out of desperation for a left handed D instead of old man Chara and Greene but make up whatever scenario you wish.

That is not what I said or he said. There's number 1D and number 2D. Number 4D. Number 5D. Are there 5 pairs of D? Are you okay?
