TOR Trade and Draft Shock

Description
Team should make playoffs. Has great depth and has almost 9m in cap space left. Although I like Slafkovsky and think he will eventually be the pick, a future pairing of Hughes and Nemec would be insane

I genuinely like the idea of drafting Nemec, but it's really hard to accept taking him at #2 for me personally. Would love if there's a way to trade down a spot or 2 and grab him.

But then again, if he's our guy, then you take him regardless

why in the world would the leafs do this? They literally need more top 6 forwards and they're selling one for a defender they dont need?

I’ve literally seen a million Leafs fans propose a trade with the exact same base. And I wouldn’t say ur right side defense is exactly great. Blackwood is also a big piece in this as he can replace Campbell because at this point, it’s unlikely he stays. U also get pick #37 which is essentially no different than a late 1st. Clearing Holl’s cap also clears up another 2m in cap

If this type of deal didn’t work out, I think there would be alternatives. I think you could see a package of Severson and Sharangovich if the Devils could swing Puljujarvi from EDM. If those two players were involved on the Devils side, Blackwood is removed from the trade and the pick probably shifts to a 3rd

neat, those proposals are wrong too. congrats, you are as wrong as they are. severson from Holl is not half of nylander's value difference and blackwood has minimal value. He's a 25 year old back up coming off two bad seasons. He cant replace campbell at all. and a 2nd round pick? again, not near enough to make up half the values difference.
Oh,and holl actually has value, so he's not a cap dump.
so combine all of this with the actual point i was making where the Leafs biggest team need for years has been top 6 scoring and you have a terrible trade proposal that does nothing for the leafs.

there is no trade with the leafs and jersey involving Nylander that doesnt involve a gross overpayment from the leafs because the leafs need another player like nylander not one less player like nylander

You've seen Leafs fans propose Nylander for a goalie who just put up a .892, an expiring contract and a second rounder? Lol...... maybe a few years ago but not anymore. Nylander isn't going anywhere. That's a certainty. Justin Holl is fine at 2M. Rather him than Severson considering the cost of acquisition.

I also think you are significantly underrating Justin Holl. He is not a cap dump. Some team will pay to get him. I guarantee you that. Like your idea of taking Nemec at 2 though

The unfortunate part of Leafs ACGM (And many other teams, but the Leafs are one of the largest groups here) is that you're guaranteed to see someone from the "NYLANDER IS SOFT!!!" crowd go off and trade 2 years of a point per game player for peanuts because they simply don't like him, which is kind of a shame. Honestly, if he was on any other team, that same group would be doing daily posts about trading FOR him.

At the end of the day, Blackwood was pretty much on par with Mrazek last year (both had injury issues, but both were BAD), Severson continues to be solid, but when you're a contending team, you don't move multiple years of Nylander to rent Severson...and 37 OA *SHOULD* have zero interest to the Leafs. Getting picks and/or prospects should have zero interest to them if it means actively making their team worse.

Holl is better than Dermott and Hamonic, both of whom netted a 3rd as their return, so aside from the hilarious dislike that capfriendly users seem to have for him, there's really no reason why there wouldn't be interest.

Yeah okay, that’s exactly what the Leafs need. Another flashy top 6 scorer. That has served them well the past few years, don’t u think? Leafs management and obviously Leafs fans as I know see, are always looking in the wrong places. Ur team needs more depth; ur already top heavy. Your RHD core stinks also. U had Lybushkin playing with Reilly. U think ur going anywhere with that? And the difference between Severson and Holl is MASSIVE

yes, it is exactly what the leafs need. Anyone who has paid attention to the leafs at all for the past 3 years knows that they have been a good defensive team that was let down by scoring in the playoffs.
your trade is bad, and doesnt help the leafs at all.
And no, the difference between severson and Holl isnt MASSIVE. but the value between Nylander alone and that entire package sure is

If the leafs are sending Nylander to Jersey in a trade. They are getting nothing less than the 2nd overall pick in return.

Find one reasonable GM post on this site where even the people that really hate Nylander trade him for a very middling goalie that has had injury issues (and one good year), and a UFA pending dman. Severson doesn't get you a 1st at deadline this year. You think he gets you a top30 winger?
