There's literally nothing that Ottawa (or any team really) would realistically offer that would have chicago fans say "chicago says yes".

To Hawks fans: the chances that you will be happy with the Debrincat return are dismal.

7th overall plus greig is at least a good starting point. Might cost Ottawa their 2023 pick though

yes there is ... Sanderson and the 7ov.

If they wanted to trade him though to move on or whatever, the 7th overall pick and 2 first round prospects wouldn't be the worst return ever

They don't want to move on from him. The reason he's in the rumor mill is because he's their best asset to get the picks back that were lost by Bowman. He is still young, will still be an effective goal scorer when the rebuild is likely to be over, and he's still a restricted agent. It's likely 20million will come off the books next year, so the cost isn't an issue for the hawks. The hawks are likely to be looking for at least 2 firsts (the 7th overall isn't really that big of a deal in this draft), a prospect and an NHL ready player. This offer likely dons't beat what other teams would offer. And again, if this offer was the best bid presented, it's likely the hawks would just wait till the deadline, or just sign Cat and keep him for the long term.

the 7th overall pick, 2 first round prospects, an unprotected pick from a rebuilding team and basically another first round pick on top of that (Brown's probable deadline return) for Debrincat is hilarious. Debrincat is sick but when is the last time you saw a return like that for any player

Ottawa has been the butt end of cheap and money jokes for YEARS because of Melnyk. Let's all laugh a little once in a while.

It's a hypothetical. What the hawks want and what they are offered could be two different things. Different scenario obviously but sens traded a top 5 RW in the league with an extension and got back Erik Brännström and a 2nd after a year of saying "other teams will offer something better"

I think it's good value for Debrincat, maybe instead of Grieg they want Boucher and another pick

Don't know why Ottawa would do the MTL trade

    Every non-Ottawa team says no.

    Quoting: Melnyk_0ut
It sounded at the Deadline like MTL was interested in White. Is he overpaid? Absolutely. But he could still be an effective top 9 player and it's a contract you can live with and easily move if needed. Ottawa may need to add more but it's not far

Its been reported that Montreal was discussing White, that doesn't mean your proposal makes sense regarding their stated goals or needs.

I also don't think his contract is one you can live with or easily move. His value in this moment is that you can buy out his contract at 1/3 instead of 2/3rds this year. Montreal wouldn't be making a move like that if they were taking White.

Different scenario. Stone was leaving regardless because he wanted to win. He was also a UFA.

Cat is an RFA, a legit 40 goal scorer and will be playing with Stu for years. Picks and prospects are picks and prospects. They are mystery boxes until they get that shot. I think Greig has the potential to be a Brad Marchand 2.0. I think Thomson is going to be a top 4 D man. That 7th overall is going to be a good hockey player... just not right now.

Different scenarios exactly. The Hawks also just traded a mid-6 forward at the deadline for two firsts and a bottom 6 and a mid-6. The hawks had something similar with Sharp, waiting for someone to offer something better. The difference is they needed to move on from Sharp, there is no need/want to move Debrincat other than getting a large return, if they don't get that, Debrincat is still highly valuable to the Hawks, they'll happily keep him.

IE, to get Debrincat, you'll need to present an offer that is greater than what the Hawks value Debrincat at, which is fairly high.

I would agree but it sounds like Debrincat is likely to get traded at this point and I just don't see them getting a blow your socks off kind of return. Teams don't like giving away the farm like that. Giving away the 7th pick and Greig is already a tough pill to swallow but definitely worth it for debrincat. Look at the return Eichel got

At the detriment to the on ice-play, yeah. What a strange in-house rule to have. Kind of like the in-house budgets we have in Ottawa. I'm glad they went with Kent Hughes. Dude seems to know his stuff when it comes to hockey.

Eichel situation was also an organizational mess from top to bottom. Eichel wasn't going to play without the surgery he wanted/needed. There were talks of terminating his contract and I don't blame Eichel at all for what he went through in Buffalo.

Florida will want more. Brown is an excellent 2-way 2nd liner (in terms of production) but Weegar is an excellent 2-way top pairing D-man

I really can't see Jonathan Drouin still being a Sens target. I'd rather have Guenette who is a decent prospect who will play in the NHL (question is how long?) and that 2nd. Just buy out Colin Whitet if the goal is to get rid of his salary. Although, this is Jo's last year on his contract so I could be tempted to do that

The Chicago trade is tricky. I want to do it but at the same time I am very reluctant in trading Greig at all. I would be ready to give up the Sens 1st in 2023 and a prospect like jarventie/Sokolov instead of giving up Greig

    Quoting: Melnyk_0ut
I think it will be hard to get more than that

Agreed but keep in mind that not a lot of people know who Ridly Greig is. I had to convince my fellow Sens fans last summer (when we were ranking the pool) that he was the Sens 3rd best prospect (after Sanderson and Pinto). It took some time and the season to play out but people are getting convince. Pronman ranked him as the 18th best NHL prospect in his last list.

    Chicago doesn’t get Sanderson

Nobody should. It's exactly like when Dallas wouldn't trade Heiskanen for Erik freaking Karlsson

    Quoting: ChiHawk
Hawks ask for Sanderson instead of Brannstrom or Greig or Pinto instead of Greig as the base of the trade or they aren't interested. The #7OA is in a very weak top 15 this year so it doesn't really move the needle like it would in a typical year.

    7th OA + Jake Sanderson?

A problem you might have is thinking that Ridly Greig and Erik Brannstrom have anywhere near the same value. This isn't 2020 anymore.

    Quoting: hawksfan1988
Brannstrom can't play regular minutes with a bad Ottawa team.

Misinformation. And Brannstrom played an average of 19:46 last season.

    Quoting: Green4D4
The way I look at it, they need to recoup assets from the Jones deal.

The 7th overall, Greig, Thomson/JBD and an unprotected 1st next year is a good start. I would throw in Connor Brown at half retained if they want to move him at the TDL for more assets.

That's more a package for Kane during his prime

    7th OA : worth more than a regular "1st"
Greig : easily worth a top-10 pick to the Sens. You instantly turn it down if someone offers you less value for him
    Thomson/JBD : worth another first
UNPROTECTED first next year : a shot at Bedard/Michkov if the Sens miss the playoffs? (still likely), also worth a lot
Connor Brown half retained is easily worth a 1st + 2nd at the deadline

This is a CRAZY package, that's 5 firsts and a 2nd with 2 of the first round picks being top-10 worthy. That's a LOT more than what Eichel returned

    Quoting: Melnyk_0ut
the 7th overall pick, 2 first round prospects, an unprotected pick from a rebuilding team and basically another first round pick on top of that (Brown's probable deadline return) for Debrincat is hilarious. Debrincat is sick but when is the last time you saw a return like that for any player
