Description
Couple of Jimmy's favourite players and a first should be enough to pry the Pittsburgh boy out of Vancouver.

Zucker while a cap dump, still fits in with the Anaheim top 6 and probably scores 20 there with ice time and good health.

Pettersson is pretty much gone at this point, would love to get more for him, but this seems to be pretty much the consensus value on here.

Might have to pay Rakell a bit more, but that's not a huge issueif you have to give him an extra 500k a year or so.

I think that should be the deal Malkin signs, just seems too perfect. Right about on the value if he were to take a discount and looks cool with the symmetry to Sid's number contract, plus he gets to play out his contract with Sid. I think they both leave one way or another at the end of those contracts.

Letang really wants the extra years so you give them to him so he takes a little less AAV. What's the harm in paying him those extra two years when you likely aren't competitive anyway. Maybe don't give him the no trade clause for the last couple years to keep your options open and give him a shot at another cup.

This looks like a dangerous team, with a bit of cap space to fill in holes on the D and maybe the bottom 6 at the trade deadline.

Just to bad Hextall has a man crush on Big Jeff, cause I have a feeling that contract is not going to look good very early on next year. Just looked like he was slowing down big time as the year went on.

Nylander, Poulin, and O'Connor battle for the final spot and bring back Big Brian Boyle for when we inevitably lose a center at some point. Or have Miller slide over.

Marc-Andre takes the hometown discount to finish his career as a Pen and gives us a back-up we can actually rely on for once.

Please give me your thoughts on the deals, signings and what you think of the team and how realistic something like this is.
Thanks

Letangs number starts with an 8. Anaheim probably accepts in the case that’s a 2nd just to seal the deal, though this may work. Other than that, looks pretty solid to me.

Don’t think Fleury returns home and what does he like so much about Marino and Kapanen? Also might have to add conditional picks for an extension or something but not sure

Even with the 5th year you think? That's nearly a $40 million dollar contract to a 35 year old at $7.5! Just seems like a lot. There is room for it in this ACGM anyway so it could be done.

This Miller trade is all over this site. I hope this is not the return as it just doesn't seem like enough. While Marino is a decent 2nd pairing RD, for him to be the center piece of a Miller trade is very underwhelming. The 21 OA in a very tepid draft, plus Kapanen, a fast but very flawed player doesn't add much either. I'd like to see a 2023 1st and a prospect with at least good potential as part of any Miller transaction. If this is all Miller can get, I just keep him and trade him for whatever at the TDL.

Yea I really hope it’s 4 and not 5 because with Sid saying “at least 4 for more” I think Geno and Letang sign for 4 and then if they all want one last crack it they all take a massive paycut in that last year and try to go out with a bang. Will be interesting to see for sure but yea I’d really like to hope it’s 4 years and not 5.

He drafted/traded for them when he was with the pens. And gave Marino his long-term deal. I don't know why he likes them, he has just shown in the past that he does. Not sure if the conditional pick is really necessary considering the Canucks are moving him because they probably can't resign him anyway.

He’s the “center piece” because the Nucks need that right shot defenseman and Marino is that guy, he’s the focal point of the trade and the other assets are there to balance it out. Kapanen still has game and is coming off a rough season but is young and that’s where the upside is. Poulin will not be moved at all if that’s what you’re asking for.

Honestly I'm not sure any scenario that has us trading Zucker is realistic - my own included haha. He has a 10 team NTC - you have to think ANA would show up on that list. It almost covers all non-playoff teams.

Letang's salary is fine. If you are giving him 4+ years 7.5mil is definitely realistic. Overall I like the team, but would like to see McGinn dumped for Zohorna and use that extra 2mil for a better 3rd line winger or 2nd RHD

Miller is a rental at this point and Marino would end up the top RHD in Van playing with Quinn. Both him and Kapanen fit the Canucks window a lot better than Miller along with whoever they get with the 1st. Maybe a prospect like Legare could be added in or something more if the Canucks retain salary, but overall, I don't think it's a terrible deal considering how every Canucks post I see has them chasing after Marino.

A lot of Canuck posters love Marino. IDK why. It's not like he's bad, but Alvin/Rutherford need to hit a home run in a Miller trade and this isn't it. Fitting a timeline is great and all, but if they aren't the right pieces, what's the point.

Kapanen has so much game, he is include in almost every trade on this site. Tell you what, Myers has a lot of game too, sounds like a match made in heaven. IF Marino is the guy, Poulin and the 2023 are coming too.

Looking at the salary cap for the next year they won't be able to sign Miller because of the 3yr contracts to Malkin and Letang

Depends, you do have 20+ million in cap space the following year and the only needs will be Jarry, Blueger and a backup so you might be able to. If POJ can take a top 4 spot, you don't really need to bring back Dumo and can find a cheaper replacement since his game has kind of dropped off a little.

If the pens knew they could bring Miller back after next season, it would be more of an option. But for what is currently just a one year rental, this isn't a bad return. I think the return you are after is coming from a team with the knowledge he wants to stay and the ability to sign him long term which is just not the Pens at this point.

Consensus around here is Pettersson for a 3rd. Not really sure why the 7th is needed, but if that's the deal breaker, then I guess you can have the 7th....

Pens just have so few draft picks, we need to add something to our pool, even if that is a flood of 7th rounders, lol. Odds are with all the picks Detroit has in the early rounds, a 7th rounder doesn't get the attention in Detroit anyway, where he might in Pitt. Let's just say it puts you in good graces for when you guys are competing and the Pens are the ones selling off all the rental pieces haha.

I believe you got the term right with Letang, I agree with the first commenter though that the AAV starts with 8.

Brian Boyle just had knee surgery and will be 38 this season. His roster spot needs to be replaced with a younger player.

Realistically, I do not see Fleury coming back to Pittsburgh. They will try to go cheaper with a backup goaltender so that probably means DeSmith is back at the same price. Penguins have some up and coming Goalies in the system so Domingue and D'Orio will not be back.

Of the WBS players, time has run out for Almeida, Almari, Drozg and Angello. It is time to get some of the recent undrafted FA signings a shot.

It could be made a second probably, Zucker has also been a 20 goal scorer or on a 20 goal, 40+ point pace in 6 of the last 7 seasons so he's still a productive player that would likely be in Anaheim's top 6. Just had one season filled with injuries that held him back. It's only one year on the deal anyway so they don't have to deal with the slightly overpriced contract after this season. Anaheim also needs to get to the cap floor this season and has been considering moving another 6+ million in Gibson.

This is very solid. Carter needs to be moved to the wing tho. Carter put up decent numbers last year but he faded towards the end. That’s because he played PK, PP, and 3C. He can’t have al of these roles. Let Erod play centre, he has young legs and it is his natural position.

I wonder if pettersson being traded makes it less likely for Rakell to come back. They seem very close
