That 1st trade would be terrible for the islanders. I would bet a lot of money this team misses the playoffs while mortgaging the future to do so

Miller is going to regress , OEL will be a 3rd pair D at best next season and there likely won’t be a big difference in impact between Beau and Garland next season

Need to continue the tradition of playing Noah Dobson with washed up defenseman who can’t skate

A lot of the analytics types seem to disagree on a Miller regression.

Regression doesn’t mean bad, he’s not putting up another 99 point season. Which analytics types disagree on a Miller regression?

LWOS did a few articles on him in the spring, a podcast made similar references. He will obviously regress towards the end of his next deal, but he will still be very much the same player he is now in the interim. The Canucks will get good value for him in a trade because of that. NYR probably ruing the fact they didn't pony up for him right about now.

OEL was actually quite good last year. Horrible contract, but he’s not a bad player

He had the highest on ice shooting % of his career last season, he will regress next season. He’ll still be a great player, but it’s not even a lock he’ll hit a point per game next season. He also plays with some of the best PP specialists in the game (Pettersson and Hughes) which also boosts his points

He’s definitely worth half his salary. He is currently worth probably around 5-6M as he’s still a solid top 4 dman. In a couple years that probably won’t be the case, but just because his contract is bad doesn’t mean he’s a bad player

And also, the Isles seem to have a fascination with overpaid long term contracts (Bailey, Pageau, Lee, Palmieri, Ladd etc) so maybe they’d be willing to take OEL’s contract /s

You can’t compare any contract on that list to the albatross that is OEL.

He’s horrendous I don’t care what his metrics say. Watching him skate is painful.

You make it sound like he was one of Gretzky's wingers LOL. Where ever he goes he will be playing with the best AND driving offense. Miller is very good and I have absolutely no doubt he will be a point a game player for the next 3 years. Not sure if Vancouver does this trade (although it is an interesting proposal), but Miller is by far the best piece in this trade.

Miller really isn’t a strong offensive driver at even strength and he’d be a terrible fit on the islanders because he generates most of his offense off the cycle and Barzal generates most of his offense in transition. Hughes and Peterson are two of the best PP specialists in the league so yeah he did have a lot of help on the PP

I’m not saying he won’t be good but he did have a high PDO last season which suggests he will regress this season. The islanders would never mortgage the future and take OEL albatross contract for one year of Miller
