Description
I seriously believe this team can be a playoff team next season. There's lots of depth and skill and depending on how Boston\ Washington\Pittsburg's offseasons go they could leave open 1 or 2 playoff spots in the eastern conference. If Bergeron resigns and Ovi bounces back fast from his injury then making the playoffs would be more of an outside chance and take a little luck.

Lots of cap space left over so gives us room to make moves if we want.

Still a huge glut of wingers and I don't know if Chinny and Marchenko get into the lineup unless players like Gus/Tex/Bemstrom get traded. They could out play Robinson or Danforth in camp so maybe swap those 2 out for the Russians.

May need a big veteran on defense to help solidify the blue line so maybe signing someone from FA or trading for one could be beneficial.

didn't want to add any trades like Foudy for a 3rd round pick but know that we would qualify him and not let him walk most likely.

Not sure it’s a playoff team, but it’s also what I’ve been saying for months. Let the kids develop and see where it goes. It’ll also depend on what we draft at 6 and 12 for the following season.

I can't see Nyquist or Bemstrom being on CBJ next year, run something like Laine-Jenner-Voracek, Johnson-Roslovic-Ollie, Tex-Silly-Yegor, Robinson-Kuraly-Danforth with Marchenko possibly rotating in/in the AHL if he needs it

Edit: Guys like Foudy, Trey, Meyer would be in the same position as Marchenko most likely

Only problem with Foudy is that he is no longer waiver exempt so he will so he will have to stay on the main squad cause I doubt a team wouldn't put a claim on him if we want to send him back to the AHL.

If we get Nemec or Jiricek do you think we trade Adam or Ceulemans? Feel like we will have one of the best pipelines of young players after this draft

Rather trade Bean in that scenario, hes a lefty D that pretty much plays like Boqvist, slightly older, just produces a little less. Unless you don't wanna be filled with too many right handed D (who knew that could be a problem?) considering Ceulemans, Blankenburg, and both draft D are all Righty

Don't also wanna be filled with too many offensive minded D, as by what they say Ceulemans is a 2way guy, not just offense heavy.

I expect Marchenko to play full time next year. He's coming in far more refined than Chinakhov so if either of them spend time in the AHL I think it will be Chinny.

Shoot, I didn't realize hes losing his waiver exemption. Probably more motivation for him to be traded this summer.

I don't necessarily see this roster as making the playoffs. We weren't particularly close this year (those are a tough 19 points) and I think we overperformed considering the teams underlying metrics.

We need Chinny and Marchenko to play. If Chinny is going to be in the AHL next year then he should've been in it this year, but for some reason he wasn't. Either Jarmo doesn't trust our AHL program or they thought that Gavrikov was crucial for creating a positive off-ice environment. I can't see Marchenko not playing, the kid looks really good in small spaces, plays an otherwise translatable style and played in Russia on smaller ice frequently.

I'd move Boqvist over Bean only because he may be worth more to some team and I can mentally project Bean as a defender and see too many flaws with Boqvist and not a safe enough environment for him to develop (too many forwards who aren't yet very good at D and either lack of defenseman who can break the puck out or a bad system). Boqvist scored goals, which were impressive, but goal scoring is far more subject to random noise than it is a reliable projection of offensive talent. I think Bean is slightly better at breakouts and in transition and for now prefer.

I also don't mind if we "run it back" provided young guys get development time. I think we could use another high pick next year, Stanley Cup contention requires a lot of very high level players.

Yeah us being a fringe playoff contender is pretty much determine on how Boston/Pitt/Wash navigate the off season. If they continue for one last push then yeah I don't see us making it. If 2 start doing a rebuild or retool I can see us maybe competing. Come 2023-2024 season when we have Marchenko, Kent and Silly all on ELC's we may be killer that year assuming they can develop like they should this season.

Agreed, I just am not sure I like the idea of fringe playoff contending. Hopefully Boqvist, Chinakov and Johnson all hit their ceilings (Sillinger and Marchenko are going to be useful at the NHL level, it's just a matter of where in the lineup) and this is the right time to start getting them the playoff style experience. Hopefully our coach can build a system of play that accentuates what we have on the team and avoid vanilla-izing the players in the way that Tortorella often did.

Jarmo does want to add more size and make trades for roster players, which he mentioned in his post-TDL interview, I just can't for the life of me figure out how to do it while navigating our forward crunch and young D.

Yeah, I def think Jarmo will be active this offseason. I'd be shocked if we aren't involved in any trades by the draft.
