Description
Ownership's dream right here. Actual salary expenditure is under 63 mil.

No changes at forward. Yes Krebs on 4th line. Open any public advanced stats model, the guy got absolutely rocked at the NHL level and before you say it, yes I saw that one pass he made on Friday March the who cares. He had the worst possession and shot quality for/against of any Sabres forward (including Eakin). Let him work his stuff out with defensively responsible players and he'll probably take Mittelstadt's spot at some point.

Fans will love adding PK Subban b/c many of them think its still 2014 or w/e

Desmith cause he'll get the starter role, Karmanos connection might be a factor

I just guessed the Weber deal, i really don't know. I assume the Sabres will get something for it, just nothing particularly strong since there will be more than one team interested.

Idk what good value here is. Multiple teams will be interested, but he's not playing so I imagine it'll cost MTL something to move him, but nothing like when the leafs had to move Marleau since his actual salary is much lower.

Idk what the offer was, but apparently the league nixed it? (Steve Dangle rumour so take that for what you will). Its possible you're right, the league may not like the optics of a team giving up picks to acquire a non playing guy just to get to the floor. Kind of a bad look.

Idk MTL has a bunch of picks, 3rd and 4th doesnt really hurt the team to move 4 years of that cap hit.

Why would Montreal pay to move Weber's contract? Logically speaking it costs nothing to leave him on LTIR and we get to exceed the cap by his cap hit. Also Marleau was still an active player and was to be bought out so he could sign elsewhere that is why the Leafs had to pay to move him. It's not the same with Weber. Think the Ducks would pay to move Kessler's contract? No cause it is illogical, it costs them nothing to keep him.

They're paying a 3rd and 4th here so its not exactly breaking the bank. But a) I literally said its not like Marleau when making the point that MTL wouldn't have to give up too much so you may have misread that. And b) what makes you think they didn't try with kesler? Im sure their owner would have loved to not have to pay a guy nearly 7 mil to sit on LTIR for his team.

Does LTIR relief count when the season isnt going? Like in FA i mean? That could be a reason MTL would want out, to have the room to spend.

I think you are way to pessimistic in regards to the team’s plans. They aren’t going to go into next year with the exact same team and eat Weber’s salary. They must capitalize on the good will the team generated in the latter part of the season; not effectively burn it by being extremely cheap and running with a team making about 58mil

Not all "cap dumps" are equal. Some actually have value because of how the salary cap works. Weber's contract actually has value to some teams. Arizona specifically because you can pay him very little actual money to take up a lot of cap space. If that's what you want to do. Arizona wants to do that because the league forces them to spend 60M+ in cap every eyar but Arizona doesn't want to actually spend that money because they're sort of broke and aren't trying to win now anyway.

By getting Weber and paying a million bucks, Arizona gets save millions of dollars.

Montreal isn't pressed to move him because they want to sign a free agent or anything. They're rebuilding so there is no pressure for them to do anything. Having to do "cap gymnastics" is the only negative draw back to keeping Weber but its not a problem. Its just a nuisance. If they can move for free they'll do it. If they can get a team to pay them a draft pick or two, that's gravy but they won't pay some team to get rid of him. Or at the very least if its costs them like a 7th rounder, fine but nothing of substantial value.

Yes, that is my right to do so. Also, bit presumptuous to assume I live where you live. I mean, its not afternoon here, and the weather is alright I guess, bit chilly for late may though.

I just assume some sort of mid to late pay pick for whoever takes him. I take your point, but I believe part of the rumoured reason the league nixed the weber/arizona deal is because they dont like the optics of a team paying picks for a player just to get the floor. IIRC, they really pushed the "if you're only going to the cap floor can your actual salary invested in the team be at least close to that?" with the owners.

LTIR can be used in the offseason just like in the regular season. The only requirement is a doctor's note must be submitted to the league stating that the player is expected to miss significant time at the beginning of the season. Since Weber is not expected to ever play again, he would qualify for offseason LTIR. Also Webers contract is insured and his salary is only 3 mil so again it costs the Habs nothing to keep him and makes him more attractive for Arizona since they have even less out of pocket money due to the low salary and the insurance payments.

Ok gotcha, thanks for clearing that up! Those same reasons are why it would be attractive to the Sabres to though. Idk, like i said I was just guessing with the costs. I just have a hard time believing the league would be okay with a team giving up assets for that contract. So it may end up being a later pick than what I had suggested.

Arizona is the desitination for Weber if any team. He is owned 6 millions, but carries cap hit for 4 more years. Perfect for Arizona - 60 mil cap floor, would cost them 55 mil in 2022/23 and then 53.
Sabres should try to make the floor, by actually signing guys which can improve this roster.
