1 and 33 for Dubois and 14

Description
There was rumors Dubois could be traded for MTL 2022 1st if it was 3rd overall. So i guess PLD value is a 3rd overall.

Looking at draft pick trade value charts, 1 and 33 for 3 (PLD) and 14 is fair for both teams in term of value.

Not trying to rush a MTL rebuild, if MTL trade Petry and Dvorak this summer, they're still a bottom 5 team.

I put Price on LTIR, he said he won't play many games next year if his knee still hurt. Keeping cap space in case he's back, but i think he's going on LTIR sooner than later.

He's as good as Suzuki. The 8M a year contract he will sign this summer will prove that.

Getting overpaid doesn’t make you as good as Suzuki. Who’s almost as good if not equal to Suzuki is Josh Norris

This isnt the right way to use the first OA. Imo, we should trade down and grab Cooley instead

I really think Suzuki and Dubois are close in term of value. Different kind of player, but both top 6 centers.

Depends. Lets say PHI wants him very badly so they offer their 2023 first top 3 protect + 5OA for 1st OA and EDM 2nd. Then, move from 5 to 3 with ARZ for pick 33 and Weber.

Might be fair value, but are the Jets ready for a “full rebuild” yet?
    That’s tough to say
I think with the talent they have they should continue to tweak the roster & try to compete

I wouldn't take Petry unless he came with draft picks and 50% retained, he has 10x more give aways than take aways

    AGREED

We don’t need anymore offensive defensemen here
Dahlin & Power will more than fill those roles for us going forward

Giveaways/Takeways is generally a very poor indicator for defensemen on bad teams/systems. Even in a down season, Petry was still a high quality defender that would interest many teams if he hits the market. But I understand if he's too old for Buffalo's timeline.

Dubois isn't being traded and if he was it wouldn't be for a couple magic beans. Wow, do people overrate the value of picks compared to established players.

Scheifele is gone this summer, Wheeler is 36. Rumors says Hellebuyck wants out too. I think they're gonna have to rebuild or retool.

But PLD would be good for their future too. I think he wants 8 years now, but not sure Winnipeg wants to give him a long term contract yet.

Scheifele & Hellebuyck (& even Dubois) could likely get them returns where they can retool
I think that’s more likely than selling guys off for draft picks like you’re hoping

Well, most people seem to think trade value is fair (1 and 33 for Dubois and 14), but also says MTL should keep Wright since he's the best player for the future.

I saw 2 Winnipeg fans answer, and both seem to think Dubois is worth more than Wright. Can you explain how?

Getting Wright for Dubois isn't exactly selling guys off for draft picks.

Also, your GM said he was looking for RHD vet this summer, you're gonna look really bad if he trade for Petry, whatever the cost, because you're only saying "We just don't want him".

Don't forget, most fans extremely overrate draft picks, so that's the main reason people think it's fair.

Dubois is a proven player. What has Wright done to be worth more is the better question.

Is this like when Habs fans guaranteed everyone last summer that the lowest goal total we'd ever see from Caufield was 50 starting in his rookie season. Look how that turned out.

Just bc we may be looking for a RD,
does NOT mean we want any RD

    He’s too old
    He contract sucks
And we aren’t looking for an offensive defenseman
We’re looking for a physical, stay at home type

Pretty sure most people were saying 40. He's on a 48 goals season pace under Martin St-Louis. Guess we'll see how it goes next year.

I heard that interview he referring to

    It was roughly like this:

Q: Do you feel you need to add a top4 RD defenseman or a Vet to help guide all the youth on the backend?
A: We like the progress we’ve been making, but of course we’d keep an eye to out to make our team better

Just bc Petry is a Vet, doesn’t mean he’s what we are looking for
If I’m wrong, feel free to point this out when we trade for him
    But I’m 99.9% positive we won’t

The team trading for Petry will be surprised at how fast and good offensively he is. MTL is not getting rid of him, he just want out of Canada.

And with how those last 2 years trade deadlines went, he's probably getting that late 1st back if the team decide to sell him at 2025 TDL.

I think you keep missing me saying that we aren’t looking for an OFFENSIVE defenseman
We have Dahlin & now Power to fill that role

If we bring in anyone, it’ll be a DEFENSIVE, stay-at-home type
Preferably one who adds some physicality

Petry is not the style guy that fits our needs
And he’s old with a bad contract

This isn't even about Dubois vs Wright as a player. There are huge cap implications to a trade like this for MTL. MTL has already maxed out their cap (I have no idea how OP thinks we can fit Dubois next year they should have used 2022-23 as the year for this post), and they just finished 32nd in the NHL.

There is no way this trade puts them into contender status, so why make it can put yourself in salary cap hell? Keep the pick, and you have an ELC player for 3 years, ideally by the time this player gets a new contract you are a contender. The 1st overall pick fits MTL's timeline so much better than Dubois.

For the OP it was about Wright vs Dubois. But I agree with what you're saying, Montreal should not be trading away 1OA and Winnipeg has no reason and isn't in a position to gamble a player like Dubois on a hope that the picks turn out. It doesn't make sense for either team no matter how you look at it.
