Quoting: NDoody
That's a huge no for me Bob.
1 - I'm not passing on the First this season even at 7, lots of good players available.
2 - If you give Fiala 8 and Giroux 7 with the term you got there and get lucky enough to get Norris at 8 (I think he gets more) is no way in hell your gonna be able to sign Stutzle & Sanderson long term alone and the raise that Zub needs, plus potentially another #1 goalie if Forsberg doesn't fill that role by next season, and the other prospects coming.
It can work, I just don't think Dorion has the balls to do it.
2023-2024 Hammer, Watty, Holden and DelZotto come off the books for $7.8M, add $1M cap increase (could be more). Then the cap space that's already there, $11M, so you have $19.8M in cap space.
- Stuey gets a $7.5M raise ($8.5M salary)
- Zub gets a $2.5M raise (that's on the high end)
- Kasty gets a $500K raise ($1.4M salary)
- Replace Hammer by JBD at $1M
- Greig replaces Watty at $1M (not ideal to have him on the 4th line but injuries etc. can change that)
- Pinto signs a bridge for 2 years (when Giroux is done) for a $2.5M raise ($3.5M salary)
- Give Gus $1M raise if he plays decent ($1.7M salary)
- Sign Holden to 1 yr $1M or another depth D for this
Total signings of $17M
After all that and you have >$2.8M in cap space for 2022-2023.
Gets tricky with Sandy and Lassi expiring in the next year but could work if the cap bumps up a bit as it's reported that the players will have paid their debt to the owners by the end of the 23-24 season. Also would work if Giroux takes a 2 year deal, maybe at 8M. It's more then I would want to give him but might convince him to pay Ontario taxes after seeing his FLA pay cheques.
