Not much reason for the Leafs to do this. Driedger has been as bad as Mrazek this season, is payed about as much and has the same term. If they are going to gamble on a goalie with term, they might as well just do Mrazek and save the pick.

Detroit declines. Finding competent RHDs is a lot harder than finding LHDs. Lindstrom is a defensive defenseman and he fits in perfectly behind Seider and Hronek. Yes Dunn would fill a hole but it would create 2 other holes. It just not a smart move for Detroit. Especially with the LHD prospects Detroit has. Edvinsson makes the team out of camp and Johansson won't be far behind. Detroit also has Walliinder who was really raw when drafted and might need another season in the SHL before coming to North America. I can see Yzerman getting a veteran defenseman as a stop gap for a year or 2. If he trades for one it will most likely be Pettersson, Martinez or Schmidt all solid defensemen and on teams looking to free up some cap. So I doubt Yzerman gives up more than a 3rd to get one of them. There are also a few UFAs Yzerman could target.

It's kind of weird considering he is a fan of Vancouver and Philly.

I'm taking dunn, I like zadina but I'm not optimistic in him getting a lot better and lindstrom is just a guy.

It's not the worst idea. You give up the over-30 Mrazek, his injury history, his bad numbers (.888 SV%, 3.34 GAA, -9.7 GSAA), and his 2x$3.8M contract to get Chris Driedger, who's a couple years younger, doesn't have an extensive injury log, has slightly less bad numbers (.897 SV%, 3.05 GAA, -6.7 GSAA) and, with this retention, he'll cost you 2x$2.95M. Driedger, to me, has more of a bounce back potential than Mrazek does, which is why you take the swing here. Both guys are going to be harder to just do a straight up cap dump since both contracts are backloaded, so if you're telling me I have to downgrade a pick a few years down the line to get the better option of the two, I think I do it.

I like Dunn a lot but I'm not trading either Zadina or Lindström for him.
